[CO2 angiography: development and trial of an animal experimental gas dosage device].

Published: April 1990

Gas have long been used in radiological examinations, in particular for the diagnostic evaluation of gastrointestinal diseases. However, not until the introduction of digital subtraction angiography was carbon dioxide also used with success for angiography of arteries. In order to advice exact and reproducible dosage of the gas with freely selectable injection parameters, a carbon dioxide gas metering device was developed. The principle of gas metering is based on the measurement of the pressure gradient of the gas across a defined pneumatic resistance. The gas metering devices was tested in 15 animal experiments to produce survey and selective angiograms.

A rare complication of a thoracic wound: the pneumopericardium?

Forensic Sci Med Pathol

January 2025

LaTIM, Inserm UMR 1101, 22 Avenue Camille-Desmoulins, CS 93837, Brest cedex, 29238, France.

Pneumopericardium (PPC) is defined by the presence of gas in the pericardial cavity, often leading to cardiac tamponade and a high mortality rate. This report describes a case involving a 33-year-old man found deceased a few meters from a knife, his clothes intact, with no resuscitation attempt made. A knotted scarf was tightly fastened around his neck, without ligature mark.

The origins of natural hydrogen in natural gas systems of sedimentary basins and the capacity of these systems to store hydrogen remain inadequately understood, posing crucial questions for the large-scale exploration of natural hydrogen. This study reports on the natural gas composition, stable carbon and hydrogen isotopic values, and helium isotopic values of gas samples collected from the Qingshen gas deposit within volcanic rocks of the Songliao Basin. Natural hydrogen primarily originates from water radiolysis, water-rock interactions (WRI), and mantle.

UV-A exposure is a major risk factor for melanoma, nonmelanoma skin cancer, photoaging, and exacerbation of photodermatoses. Since people spend considerable time in cars daily, inadequate UV-A attenuation by car windows can significantly contribute to the onset or exacerbation of these skin diseases. Given recent market trends in the automobile industry and known impact of car windows on cumulative lifelong UV damage to the skin, there is a need to comparatively evaluate UV transmission across windows in electric vehicles (EV), hybrid vehicles (HV), and gas vehicles (GV) as well as variability based on year of manufacture and mileage to inform car manufacturers and consumers of the potential for UV exposure to the skin based on vehicle.

Importance: There is growing awareness of the US health sector's substantial contribution to the country's greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, exacerbating the health threats from climate change. Reducing health care's environmental impact requires understanding its carbon emissions, but there are few published audits of health systems and fewer comprehensive emissions analyses at the clinic or department level.

Objective: To quantify the annual GHG emissions from a large outpatient dermatology practice, compare relative sources of emissions, and identify actionable targets.

Wellbore instability caused by hydration during the development of shale gas reservoirs poses significant challenges to drilling engineering. In this study, a novel and environmentally friendly shale inhibitor, TIL-NH, was synthesized via free radical polymerization using 1-vinylimidazole and N-(2-bromoethyl)-1,3-propanediamine dihydrobromide as the main raw materials. The molecular structure of TIL-NH was characterized by infrared spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance.
