Background: Environmental contamination by heavy metal ions has caused growing ecological and public health concerns. In this line, monitoring of copper toxicity gains importance due to its application in industrial, agricultural, domestic, medical and technological sectors. Although noteworthy breakthroughs were made, critical issues, such as portability, the need for well-trained personnel, costly/complex instrumentations, long response time, and the introduction of secondary contaminants, required attention.

Background: Heavy metal pollution has become a global problem, which urgently needed to be solved owing to its severe threat to water ecosystems and human health. Thus, the exploration and development of a simple, cost-effective and environmental-friendly technique to remove metal elements from contaminated water is of great importance. Algae are a kind of photosynthetic autotroph and exhibit excellent bioadsorption capacities, making them suitable for wastewater treatment.

Avian colouration in a polluted world: a meta-analysis.

Biol Rev Camb Philos Soc

Evolution & Ecology Research Centre, School of Biological, Environmental and Earth Sciences, University of New South Wales, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia.

Brilliant, diverse colour ornaments of birds were one of the crucial cues that led Darwin to the idea of sexual selection. Although avian colouration plays many functions, including concealment, thermoregulation, or advertisement as a distasteful prey, a quality-signalling role in sexual selection has attracted most research attention. Sexually selected ornaments are thought to be more susceptible to external stressors than naturally selected traits, and as such, they might be used as a test for environmental quality.

Widespread contamination by heavy metals (HMs) and dyes poses a major health risk to people and ecosystems requiring effective treatment. In this work, rice husk (RH) and shrimp shells were extracted to obtain amorphous silica and chitosan, respectively, which were utilized to produce nano-chitosan-coated silica (NCCS). To ensure the stability of the nanoparticles, silica was freeze-dried after being coated with nano-chitosan.

Microbial biotechnology plays a crucial role in improving industrial processes, particularly in the production of compounds with diverse applications. In this study, we used bioinformatic approaches to analyze the genomic architecture of MGMM6 and identify genes involved in various metabolic pathways that have significant biotechnological potential. Genome mining revealed that MGMM6 consists of a linear chromosome of 6,932,303 bp, with a high G+C content of 73.
