Personal Health Record (PHR) systems are growing in popularity and are receiving increased attention from the Biomedical Informatics research community. Information Collection is one PHR research topic and includes system functionality that helps patients retrieve their data from external sources. One of the most potentially useful external sources of information is the data stored in patients' EHRs at medical institutions. PHR systems that support Information Collection from EHR systems are thus interesting to investigate. In this paper we present PHR system that allows patients to receive data from 10 participating hospitals in Taiwan via a USB flash memory device. The overall design goals and architecture for the system are presented. Based on our experiences in designing and implementing the system we propose a three step method for accomplishing Information Collection from EHR systems at medical institutions for similar PHR systems in the future.

Externalizing traits and behaviors are broadly defined by impairments in self-regulation and impulse control that typically begin in childhood and adolescence. Externalizing behaviors, traits, and symptoms span a range of traditional psychiatric diagnostic categories. In this study, we sought to generate an algorithm that could reliably identify transdiagnostic childhood-onset externalizing cases and controls within a university hospital electronic health record (EHR) database.

Purpose: To develop and evaluate the effectiveness of an asynchronously delivered app, InBloom, for postpartum depression (PPD) prevention relative to an evidence-based synchronously delivered in-person intervention, ROSE (Reach Out, Stay Strong, Essentials for mothers of newborns) for depression and return on investment via a prospective randomized controlled trial and quasi-experimental cohort analyses.
Background: PPD affects 1 in 7 gestational parents in the US, causing emotional distress, consequences for infant development and child adjustment, disruptions in family relationships, and financial burden. ROSE is an evidence-based intervention administered as four in-person group sessions plus one postpartum booster session.

Background: The proliferation of electronic health record (EHR) alerts has led to widespread alert fatigue and clinician burnout, undermining the effectiveness of clinical decision support and compromising patient safety.
Objective: We introduce a comprehensive style guide for designing interruptive alerts (IAs) in EHR systems to improve clinician engagement and reduce alert fatigue that has been approved by our institutional alert governance committees. This style guide addresses critical aspects of IAs, including format, typography, color-coding, title brevity, patient identification, and introductory text.

Electronic health records (EHRs), though they are maintained and utilized for clinical and billing purposes, may provide a wealth of information for research. Currently, sources are available that offer insight into the health histories of well over a quarter of a billion people. Their use, however, is fraught with hazards, including introduction or reinforcement of biases, clarity of disease definitions, protection of patient privacy, definitions of covariates or confounders, accuracy of medication usage compared with prescriptions, the need to introduce other data sources such as vaccination or death records and the ensuing potential for inaccuracy, duplicative records, and understanding and interpreting the outcomes of data queries.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) is the most common global cause of chronic liver disease and remains under-recognized within healthcare systems. Therapeutic interventions are rapidly advancing for its inflammatory phenotype, nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) at all stages of disease. Diagnosis codes alone fail to recognize and stratify at-risk patients accurately.
