: The integration of microbiome and metabolome data could unveil profound insights into biological processes. However, widely used multi-omic data analyses often employ a stepwise mining approach, failing to harness the full potential of multi-omic datasets and leading to reduced detection accuracy. Synergistic analysis incorporating microbiome/metabolome data are essential for deeper understanding.

Background: Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth (SIBO) has been implicated in the pathophysiology of chronic liver disease (CLD). We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis to assess and compare the prevalence of SIBO among CLD patients (with and without with complications of end stage liver disease) and healthy controls.
Methods: Electronic databases were searched from inception up to July-2024 for case-control studies reporting SIBO in CLD.

The intestinal barrier, held together by epithelial cells and intercellular tight junction (TJ) proteins, prevents the penetration of microbial pathogens. Concurrently, intestinal epithelial cells secrete antimicrobial peptides, including cathelicidin. Cathelicidin has direct antibacterial and immunomodulatory functions, although its role in intestinal integrity remains elusive.

Background: Natural glucocorticoids (GCs) have been widely used to treat acute multiple sclerosis (MS) attacks. However, they also cause significant side effects related to immunosuppression. Our previous study found that C16 peptide combined with angiopoietin-1 (Ang-1) inhibited inflammatory cell infiltration and protected blood vessels in animal models of inflammatory neurodegenerative diseases.

-infected macrophages produce 4-hydroxynonenal (4-HNE) that mediates microbiota-induced bystander effect (MIBE) leading to colorectal cancer (CRC). Glutathione -transferase alpha 4 (Gsta4), a specific detoxifying enzyme for 4-HNE, is overexpressed in human CRC and -induced murine CRC. However, the roles of Gsta4 in -induced colitis and CRC remain unclear.
