Semicontinuous cultures were carried out at different dilution rates (D) and light intensities (I) to determine the maximum productivity of Arthrospira platensis cultivated in helicoidal photobioreactor up to the achievement of pseudo-steady-state conditions. At I=108 μmol photons m(-2) s(-1), the semicontinuous regime ensured the highest values of maximum cell concentration (X(m)=5772±113 mg L(-1)) and productivity (P(XS)=1319±25 mg L(-1) d(-1)) at the lowest (D=0.1 day(-1)) and the highest (D=0.3 day(-1)) dilution rates, respectively. A kinetic model derived from that of Monod was proposed to determine the relationship between the product of light intensity to dilution rate (ID) and the cell productivity, which were shown to exert a combined influence on this parameter. This result put into evidence that pseudo-steady-state conditions could be modified according to circumstances, conveniently varying one or other of the two independent variables.

Based on the molecular dynamics (AIMD), the temperature and velocity statistics of diatomic semiconductors were proposed to be classified by atomic species. The phase differences resulting from lattice vibrations of different atoms indicated the presence of anharmonicity at finite atomic temperatures. To further explore the electronic properties, the effect of temperature on electrostatic potential field vibrations in semiconductors was studied, and the concept of electrostatic potential oscillation (EPO) at finite atomic temperature was introduced.

Lanthanide-doped upconversion luminescent nanoparticles (UCNPs) have garnered extensive attention due to their notable anti-Stokes shifts and superior photostability. Notably, Ho-based UCNPs present a complex energy level configuration, which poses challenges in augmenting their luminescence efficiency. Herein, a rational design strategy was used to enhance the upconversion luminescence intensity of Ho ions by improving the photon absorption ability and energy utilization efficiency.

Optimizing photosynthetic lighting is essential for maximizing crop production and minimizing electricity costs in controlled environment agriculture (CEA). Traditional lighting methods often neglect the impact of environmental factors, crop type, and light acclimation on photosynthetic efficiency. To address this, a chlorophyll fluorescence-based biofeedback system was developed to adjust light-emitting diode (LED) intensity based on real-time plant responses, rather than using a fixed photosynthetic photon flux density (PPFD).

However, the extent to which browsing induces shifts in resource allocation toward lateral growth remains unclear. This study explores the impact of browsing intensity (BI) and light availability on the architectural traits of six temperate tree species, focusing on height-diameter ratio (H/D), crown slenderness (CL/CW), and crown irregularity (CI) across sapling height classes.

Colloidal quantum dots (QDs) are solution-processable semiconductor nanocrystals with favorable optoelectronic characteristics, one of which is their multi-excitonic behavior that enables broadband polychromatic light generation and amplification from monodisperse QDs. However, the practicality of this has been limited by the difficulty in achieving spatial separation and patterning of different colors as well as the high pumping intensity required to excite the multi-excitonic states. Here, we have addressed these issues by integrating monodisperse QDs in multi-excitonic states into a specially designed cavity, in which the QDs exhibit an anisotropic polychromatic emission (APE) characteristic that allows for tuning the emission from green to red by shifting the observation direction from perpendicular to lateral.
