[Visual evoked discrimination potentials in childhood].

Universitäts-Kinderklinik, St. Josef-Hospital Bochum.

Published: March 1990

70 children without visual, developmental or neurological handicap in the age of 3 to 92 months were investigated. Using red and white light flashes non-target event-related evoked potentials have been registrated, white light serving as rare (20%) stimulus (Fig. 1 and 5). It could be shown that in the event-related potential the peak latencies from N3 on had a significantly shorter latency than under red- or pure white-light stimulation (Fig. 2). They were called discriminative potentials. Diagrams (Fig. 4) revealed a maturating course with increasing age by decreasing latencies of the discriminative peaks. Normal values (Table 1) were compiled in order to serve as diagnostic criteria in diagnosis and follow-up of cerebral affections in early childhood.

Introduction: Iatrogenic injury to the ilioinguinal nerve and its branches during anterior inguinal hernia repair is a cause of chronic inguinal pain in up to 12 % of patients undergoing this operation. The risk of nerve injury is high, given the nerves' relatively small caliber and strictly-confined space through which they pass. In the current report, we describe using a novel fluorescence imaging system developed to detect nerve autofluorescence in a 66-year-old man who presented with a left-sided Type II inguinal hernia and underwent inguinal hernioplasty.

CaLuScAlSiO:Ce Green Phosphors for High-Quality White LEDs.

Inorg Chem

January 2025

College of Physics and Optoelectronics, Taiyuan University of Technology, Taiyuan 030024, P.R. China.

Phosphors with broadband green emission are highly desirable for the construction of high-color-rendering warm-white light-emitting diode (LED) devices toward healthy solid-state lighting applications. However, most of the reported green phosphors are subject to an undesirable emission bandwidth and low quantum efficiency. Here, a highly efficient broadband green-emitting garnet phosphor, CaLuScAlSiO:Ce (CLSASO:Ce), is successfully synthesized and investigated in detail.

Light pollution disrupts the natural dark-light rhythmicity of the world and alters the spectral composition of the nocturnal sky, with far-reaching impacts on natural systems. While the costs of light pollution are now documented across scales and taxa, community-level mitigations for arthropods remain unclear. To test two light pollution mitigation strategies, we replaced all 32 streetlights in the largest visitor center in Grand Teton National Park (Wyoming, USA) to allow wireless control over each luminaries' color and brightness.

Characterization of Optokinetic Nystagmus in Healthy Participants With a Novel Oculography Device.

Otolaryngol Head Neck Surg

January 2025

Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Massachusetts Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts, USA.

Objective: To develop a proof-of-concept smart-phone-based eye-tracking algorithm to assess non-pathologic optokinetic (OKN) nystagmus in healthy participants. Current videonystagmography (VNG) is typically restricted to in-office use, and advances in portable vestibular diagnostics would yield immense public health benefits.

Study Design: Prospective cohort study.

The corrugated <110> oriented layered metal halide perovskites (MHP) are gaining increased attention for a variety of properties including intrinsic white light emission. One prototypical candidate is 1-(3-aminopropyl)imidazole lead bromide, which was reported to crystallize as the <110> oriented perovskite (API)PbBr [API = 1-(3-aminopropyl)imidazole]. This work shows that under similar reaction conditions, the same components can instead form (API)PbBr, which has a "perovskitoid" structure.
