The repeating units of mouse, rat, and alpha-monkey satellites have been cloned. All three show properties that are characteristic of curved DNA: (i) their migration in polyacrylamide gels is slower than predicted from their sequences, and (ii) they appear as curved molecules when visualized by electron microscopy. All three satellite repeats contain runs of d(A.T)n greater than or equal to 3 residues that are likely to be responsible for their curvature. From analysis of 20 different satellite DNA sequences, we conclude that, in satellite DNA, adenine residues show a high tendency to cluster in groups of three or more.

Acanthocephalan parasites are often overlooked in many areas of research, and satellitome and cytogenetic analyzes are no exception. The species of the genus Acanthocephalus are known for their very small chromosomes with ambiguous morphology, which makes karyotyping difficult. Noncoding satellite DNA repeats are abundant at the pericentromeric heterochromatin of eukaryotic chromosomes. During interphase, sequence-specific DNA-binding proteins cluster these repeats from multiple chromosomes into nuclear foci known as chromocenters. Tomato yellow leaf curl Guangdong virus (TYLCGdV), a monopartite begomovirus first identified in 2004, remains poorly characterised. In this study, we demonstrate that TYLCGdV associates with a betasatellite, TYLCGdB, and the βC1 protein encoded by TYLCGdB is essential for symptom development. The eukaryotic genome is packaged into chromatin, which is composed of a nucleosomal filament that coils up to form more compact structures. Chromatin exists in two main forms: euchromatin, which is relatively decondensed and enriched in transcriptionally active genes, and heterochromatin, which is condensed and transcriptionally repressed . It is widely accepted that chromatin architecture modulates DNA accessibility, restricting the access of sequence-specific, gene-regulatory, transcription factors to the genome.
