An image-based red blood cell (RBC) automatic counting system is presented for wild animals blood analysis. Images with 2048×1536-pixel resolution acquired on an optical microscope using Neubauer chambers are used to evaluate RBC counting for three animal species (Leopardus pardalis, Cebus apella and Nasua nasua) and the error found using the proposed method is similar to that obtained for inter observer visual counting method, i.e., around 10%. Smaller errors (e.g., 3%) can be obtained in regions with less grid artifacts. These promising results allow the use of the proposed method either as a complete automatic counting tool in laboratories for wild animal's blood analysis or as a first counting stage in a semi-automatic counting tool.

Rice tiller angle is a key agronomic trait that regulates plant architecture and plays a critical role in determining rice yield. Given that tiller angle is regulated by multiple genes, it is important to identify quantitative trait loci (QTL) associated with tiller angle. Recently, with the advancement of imaging technology for plant phenotyping, it has become possible to quickly and accurately measure agronomic traits of breeding populations.

The paper focuses on the seasonal oil accumulation in traditional and super-high density (SHD) olive plantations and its modelling employing image-based linear models. For these purposes, at 7-10-day intervals, fruit samples (cultivar Arbequina, Fasola, Frantoio, Koroneiki, Leccino, Maiatica) were pictured and images segmented to extract the Red (R), Green (G), and Blue (B) mean pixel values which were re-arranged in 35 RGB-derived colorimetric indexes (). After imaging, the samples were crushed and oil concentration was determined (NIR).

Image data serves as a valuable resource for investigating relationships between colors and emotions. This study conducts an image-based visual corpus analysis on the color associations of 100 Chinese emotion words, aiming to uncover the pivotal roles of colors in understanding emotional concepts. The study addresses two primary objectives: (i) examining the interrelations among four affective properties (valence, arousal, prototypicality, and emotionality) and four image-based color attributes (Jz: a dimension depicting black-white color distinction, Az: a dimension for green-red, Bz: a dimension for blue-yellow, and color variability) associated with these emotion words; and (ii) assessing the efficacy of image-based color information in profiling affective (dis)similarities among different emotion words.
