Fast instance generation is a key requirement in atlas-based registration and other problems that need a large number of atlas instances. This paper describes a new method to represent and construct intensity atlases. Both geometry and intensity information are represented using B-spline deformation lattices; intensities are approximated using the multi-level B-spline approximation algorithm during model creation and the parallel computation capability of modern graphics processing units is used to accelerate the process of instance generation. Experiments with distal radius CTs show that, with a coefficients-to-voxels ratio of 0.16, intensities can be approximated up to an average accuracy of 2 ± 17 grey-levels (out of 3072 total grey-levels), and instances of resolution 256×256×200 can be produced in a rate of 25 instances per second with a GeForce GTX 285 video card, which is about 500 times performance improvement over the traditional method that uses plain CPU.

Coronary microembolization (CME) is defined as atherosclerotic plaque erosion, spontaneous rupture, or rupture of the plaque while undergoing interventional therapy resulting in the formation of tiny emboli that obstruct the coronary microcirculatory system. For percutaneous coronary intervention, CME is a major complication, with a periprocedural incidence of up to 25%. Recent studies have demonstrated that regulatory cell death (RCD) exerts a profound influence on CME through its modulation of inflammatory responses, oxidative stress, cell death, and angiogenesis.

Therapy-exposed surviving cancer cells may have encountered profound epigenetic remodeling that renders these drug-tolerant persisters candidate drivers of particularly aggressive relapses. Typically presenting as slow-to-nongrowing cells, persisters are senescent or senescence-like cells. In this issue of Cancer Research, Ramponi and colleagues study mTOR/PI3K inhibitor-induced embryonic diapause-like arrest (DLA) as a model of persistence in lung cancer and melanoma cells and compare this persister condition with therapy-induced senescence in the same cells.

Eutrophication of lake and reservoir caused by cyanobacterial harmful algal blooms (cyanoHABs) become a global ecological problem because of massive destruction of ecosystems, which have attracted attentions widely. In addition to the production of cyanotoxins by certain bloom-forming species, there may also be direct or indirect interactions between cyanobacteria blooms and various pollutants in lakes or reservoirs. Based on bibliometrics, 19110 papers in Web of Science (WOS) and 2998 papers in the China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) on eutrophication and cyanobacterial blooms in lakes and reservoirs were analyzed, which showed that research on this topic has been ongoing for nearly 80 years with a gradual increase in its popularity.

Background And Aims: Chronic disease is a lifelong disorder that necessitates continuing medical care and is more prone to infections such as COVID-19, compared to healthy individuals. Therefore, this study aimed to assess the severity of COVID-19 among chronic disease patients in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
Methods And Materials: A cross-sectional study was conducted in selected hospitals in the Riyadh region in Saudi Arabia, over 6 months in 2022.

Background: In 2015, the American College of Medical Genetics and Genomics (ACMG) and the Association for Molecular Pathology (AMP) developed standardized variant curation guidelines for Mendelian disorders. Although these guidelines have been widely adopted, they are not gene- or disease-specific. To mitigate classification discrepancies, the Clinical Genome Resource FBN1 variant curation expert panel (VCEP) was established in 2018 to develop adaptations to the ACMG/AMP criteria for FBN1 in association with Marfan syndrome.
