The present contribution aims at proposing a comprehensive and tutorial introduction to the practical use of wavelet Leader based multifractal analysis to study heart rate variability. First, the theoretical background is recalled. Second, practical issues and pitfalls related to the selection of the scaling range or statistical orders, minimal regularity, parabolic approximation of spectrum and parameter estimation, are discussed. Third, multifractal analysis is connected explicitly to other standard characterizations of heart rate variability: (mono)fractal analysis, Hurst exponent, spectral analysis and the HF/LF ratio. This review is illustrated on real per partum fetal ECG data, collected at an academic French public hospital, for both healthy fetuses and fetuses suffering from acidosis.

Non-invasive assessment of pulmonary nodule malignancy remains a critical challenge in lung cancer diagnosis. Traditional methods often lack precision in differentiating benign from malignant nodules, particularly in the early stages. This study introduces an approach using multifractal spectrum analysis to quantitatively evaluate pulmonary nodule characteristics.

The formation and development of cities are inseparable from a certain scale of water resources. The information contained in the morphological structures of cities and water systems is often overlooked. Exploring the spatiotemporal evolution of water system structures (WSS) and urban system structures (USS) can reveal the "urban-water" relationship from a new perspective.

Hot dry rock (HDR) geothermal development faces challenges due to the difficulty of stimulating fluid flow and heat-exchange fracture channels within deep, low-porosity, and low-permeability reservoirs. A liquid nitrogen cyclic cold shock method was proposed, using liquid nitrogen as a fracturing fluid. The large temperature difference between the liquid nitrogen and the hot rock induces thermal stress, forming a complex pore-fracture network.

: This study explored the potential of MCM-48 mesoporous silica matrices as a drug delivery system for metformin hydrochloride, aimed at improving the therapeutic management of type 2 diabetes mellitus. The objectives included the synthesis and characterization of MCM-48, assessment of its drug loading capacity, analysis of drug release profiles under simulated physiological conditions, and the development of a multifractal dynamics-based theoretical framework to model and interpret the release kinetics. : MCM-48 was synthesized using a sol-gel method and characterized by SEM-EDX, TEM, and nitrogen adsorption techniques.

It is one of the strategies to study the complexity of spontaneous fluctuation of brain neurons based on resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI), but the multifractal characteristics of spontaneous fluctuation of brain neurons in psychiatric diseases need to be studied. Therefore, this paper will study the multifractal spontaneous brain activity changes in psychiatric disorders using the multifractal detrended fluctuation analysis algorithm based on the UCLA datasets. Specifically: (1) multifractal characteristics in adult attention deficit-hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), bipolar disorder (BP), and schizophrenia (SCHZ); (2) the source of those multifractal characteristics.
