Gold nanoparticle-based surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) probes have shown promise for disease detection and diagnosis. To improve their structural and functional stability for in vivo applications, we synthesized a colloidal SERS gold nanoparticle that encapsulates Raman molecules adsorbed on 60 nm gold with a nonthiol phospholipid coating. Transmission electron microscopy and Raman and UV spectroscopy validated its reproducibility and stability. This novel lipid-based SERS probe provides a viable alternative to the PEGylation and silica coating strategies.

This article presents a reproducible and affordable methodology for fabricating organic nanowires (ONWs) and nanotrees (ONTs) as light-enhanced conductometric O sensors. This protocol is based on a solventless procedure for the formation of high-density arrays of nanowires and nanotrees on interdigitated electrodes. The synthesis combines physical vapour deposition for the self-assembled growth of free-phthalocyanine nanowires and soft plasma etching to prompt the nucleation sites on the as-grown ONWs to allow for the formation of nanotrees.

Nickel complexes of chiral spiroBox ligand catalyzed Friedel-Crafts alkylation reaction of indoles with nitroalkenes. Excellent yields (up to 99%) and enantiomeric excess (ee) values (up to 97%) were obtained with a broad scope of substrates. This catalytic system provides a facile synthesis of optically active 2-indolyl-1-nitro derivatives with high yield and enantioselectivity.

Cyclic polymers are very attractive due to their unique properties, however so far, have simple and less reactive backbone structures due to synthetic limitations, restricting their further post-modification. Notably, allenes present a potentially useful platform in polymer chemistry due to their well-established toolbox in organic chemistry. Nevertheless, the biggest challenge remains in synthesizing poly(allenamer)s with high allene contents or polymerization efficiency, as well as synthesizing different types of cyclic poly(allenamer)s.

Nitroso compounds, R-N═O, containing N═O double bonds are ubiquitous and widely utilized in organic synthesis. In contrast, heavier congeners of nitroso compounds, namely pnictinidene chalcogenides R-Pn = E (Pn = P, As, Sb, Bi; E = O, S, Se, Te), are highly reactive and scarce. They have been stabilized in the coordination sphere of Lewis acid/base or by pronounced contribution from resonance structures, whereas free species with unperturbed pnictogen-chalcogen double bonds remains elusive.

Noble-metal open nanostructures have remarkable catalytic capabilities toward a wide range of reactions. In particular, Pd-based open nanostructures have been synthesized and validated for superior catalytic performance toward formic acid oxidation. However, most of the syntheses are based on dropwise addition, making it challenging to increase the production volume.
