The present work evaluates the kinetics of the interaction of S-layer protein from Lactobacillus brevis with lipid monolayers by measuring the changes in the surface pressure as a function of time for different lipid compositions and at different lateral compressions. At high surface pressures, or at high cholesterol ratios, in which membrane rigidity and surface polarity are increased, the kinetics can be described by a pure diffusional process. At low pressures or in the absence of cholesterol, the kinetics of protein interaction can be interpreted as a consequence of a relaxation process of the membrane structure coupled to diffusion. As the less packed monolayers are more hydrated, the relaxation processes at low initial surface pressures could be ascribed to changes in water organization in the membrane. These observations denote that kinetic insertion of proteins can be modulated by components that modify the hydration state of the interface.

In accordance with German guideline ZTV-ING Part 4, full-locked coil ropes are provided with a three-layer corrosion protection coating based on epoxy resin and polyurethane, which must be renewed regularly. An alternative method is to use a coating of high-density polyethylene (HDPE), which is extruded onto the rope. In this article, the mechanical behavior of the thermoplastic material is studied, taking into account various accelerated aging processes, which are derived from the climatic boundary conditions of a real bridge structure and implemented in tests.

This research explores how varying proportions of virgin polyethylene terephthalate (vPET) and recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) in vPET-rPET blends, combined with preform thermal conditions during the stretch blow molding (SBM) process, influence PET bottles' microscopic characteristics. Key metrics such as viscosity, density, crystallinity, amorphous phase relaxation, and microcavitation were assessed using response surface methodology (RSM). Statistical analysis, including Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and its power, supported the interpretation of results.

Carbon-fiber composites with thermoplastic matrices offer many processing and performance benefits in aerospace applications, but the long relaxation times of polymers make it difficult to predict how the structure of the matrix depends on its chemistry and how it was processed. Coarse-grained models of polymers can enable access to these long-time dynamics, but can have limited applicability outside the systems and state points that they are validated against. Here we develop and validate a minimal coarse-grained model of the aerospace thermoplastic poly(etherketoneketone) (PEKK).

The particle size-dependent processes of structural relaxation and crystal growth in amorphous nifedipine were studied by means of non-isothermal differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and Raman microscopy. The enthalpy relaxation was described in terms of the Tool-Narayanaswamy-Moynihan model, with the relaxation motions exhibiting the activation energy of 279 kJ·mol for the temperature shift, but with a significantly higher value of ~500 kJ·mol being obtained for the rapid transition from the glassy to the undercooled liquid state (the latter is in agreement with the activation energy of the viscous flow). This may suggest different types of relaxation kinetics manifesting during slow and rapid heating, with only a certain portion of the relaxation motions occurring that are dependent on the parameters of a given temperature range and time frame.

Non-contact temperature sensors have gained immense popularity due to their inherent benefits, including the absence of physical interaction with targets and rapid response characteristics. In this work, KBaY(MoO):Pr was successfully synthesized utilizing a high-temperature solid-phase method. Experimental studies have indicated that multi-phonon relaxation (MPR), cross-relaxation (CR), and the unique intervalence charge transfer state (IVCT) exhibited by Pr-Mo contribute to the changes in luminescence properties.
