The methanolic extract of the aerial part of Hedyotis corymbosa (L.) Lam. (Rubiaceae) was screened for antioxidant activity using 1,1-diphenyl-2-picryl hydroxyl (DPPH) quenching assay, 2,2'-azinobis-3-ethylbenzothiozoline-6-sulfonic acid (ABTS) cation decolorization test, ferric reducing power (FRP), scavenging capacity towards hydroxyl ion (OH*) radicals and nitric oxide (NO) radical inhibition activity using established assay procedures. Total phenolics and total flavonoid contents were, also determined. The plant yielded 210 mg gallic acid equivalent/100 g phenolic content and 55 mg quercetin equivalent/100 g flavonoid content. The extract exhibited high antiradical activity against DPPH, ABTS, nitric oxide and hydroxyl radicals with EC50 value of 82, 150, 130, and 170 microg/ml, respectively. The FRP increased with increasing concentration of the sample. The antioxidant activity of the extract was comparable with that of the standard butylated hydroxyl toluene (BHT). High correlation between total phenolic/flavonoid contents and scavenging potential of different reactive oxygen species (R2 = 0.785-0.998) indicated the polyphenols as the main antioxidants.

Background: ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) is a common and severe form of acute myocardial infarction (AMI).
Objectives: The study aimed to investigate the relationship between serum nitric oxide (NO) and endothelin-1 (ET-1) levels with the severity of STEMI and their predictive value for major adverse cardiovascular events (MACE) within one year after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) in STEMI patients.
Methods: The retrospective study was conducted on 269 STEMI patients who underwent PCI.

The target of rapamycin(TOR)gene is closely related to metabolism and cellular aging, but it is unclear whether the TOR pathways mediate endurance exercise against the accelerated aging of skeletal muscle induced by high salt intake. In this study, muscular TOR gene overexpression and RNAi were constructed by constructing MhcGAL4/TOR-overexpression and MhcGAL4/TORUAS-RNAi systems in Drosophila. The results showed that muscle TOR knockdown and endurance exercise significantly increased the climbing speed, climbing endurance, the expression of autophagy related gene 2(ATG2), silent information regulator 2(SIR2), and pparγ coactivator 1(PGC-1α) genes, and superoxide dismutases(SOD) activity, but it decreased the expression of the TOR gene and reactive oxygen species(ROS) level, and it protected the myofibrillar fibers and mitochondria of skeletal muscle in Drosophila on a high-salt diet.

Owing to the high invasion depth and easy formation of biofilms, the treatment of subcutaneous fungal infection is intractable and challenging. Herein, we report an injectable and biodegradable hydrogel with bactericidal, quorum sensing inhibition and antioxidant activities for the in situ treatment of subcutaneous fungal infection. The hydrogel (BEPE) was constructed by irradiating mixed bovine serum albumin (BSA), ε-polylysine and epigallocatechin gallate (EGCG)-loaded mesoporous polydopamine (PDA) under near-infrared (NIR) light.

As an abiotic stress factor, salinity significantly affects the physiological activities of crustaceans. In this study, transcriptome sequencing was used to evaluate the mechanism of ion transport and the physiological response of black tiger shrimp (Penaeus monodon) under low salt stress. Four hundred post larval (PL) stage P.

Intestinal ischemia-reperfusion injury (IIR/I) significantly increases morbidity and mortality. This study examines the therapeutic effects of geraniol (GNL), which is noted for its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, on intestinal I/R injury in rats. Forty-nine male Wistar-Albino rats were divided into seven groups.
