We propose a technique for data detection in a two-dimensional page-access optical memory. The technique combines sequence detection by the use of the Viterbi algorithm with decision feedback to improve the bit-error-rate performance in a system corrupted by intersymbol interference. It has an advantage in that it can be operated on a row-by-row basis as data are output from the optical detector. Use of the proposed scheme might ease the design tolerances of the optical components or permit the use of large data pages.

Article Synopsis
  • Developments in bioengineering and nanotechnology are advancing research on biological communication systems, but challenges arise from the delayed arrival of molecules that can distort data signals.
  • Existing models typically overlook the complexities of detecting distorted signals at the receiver, focusing too much on channel characteristics.
  • The paper introduces BioRxToolbox, a framework for designing effective molecular communication systems that uses specific techniques to minimize signal interference and efficiently encode and decode information in biological settings.

This paper presents an asynchronous visible light communication and positioning (VLCP) system leveraging the multi-carrier orthogonal coding mechanism (MC-OCM) based on complete complementary (CC) codes. Utilizing the superior correlation properties of CC codes, our system first achieves interference-free transmission from multiple access interference and inter-symbol interference, thus simultaneously enhancing the accuracy of data transmission and receiver location in asynchronous code division multiplexing-based VLCP systems. Numerical results confirm the proposed VLCP system's superiority, featuring an average BER below the FEC standard and an average PE less than 3 cm in challenging system settings with asynchronous transmission and multipath propagation.

Next-generation data networks need to support Tb/s rates. In-phase and quadrature (IQ) modulation combine phase and intensity information to increase the density of encoded data, reduce overall power consumption by minimizing the number of channels, and increase noise tolerance. To reduce errors when decoding the received signal, intersymbol interference must be minimized.

In this paper, new schemes have been proposed for the estimation of the additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel with intersymbol interference (ISI) in an iterative equalization and decoding system using low-density parity check (LDPC) codes. This article explores the use of the least squares algorithm in various scenarios. For example, the impulse response of the AWGN channel h was initially estimated using a training sequence.

In this Letter, we propose a low-complexity adaptive multipath interference (MPI) and channel noise mitigation (AMCM) scheme in the receiver digital signal processing (DSP) for bandwidth-limited intensity modulation and direct detection (IM/DD) transmission systems. Following channel equalization, MPI and channel noise are distributed in the low- and high-frequency parts, respectively, and exhibit the characteristics of bandstop filtering. The proposed AMCM is designed based on optimized detection, which incorporates an adaptive bandpass filter (BPF) and a log-maximum a posteriori estimation with a lookup table-based fixed number of surviving states (LUT-based FS-MAP) decoder.
