We analyze and test a laboratory benchtop version of a compound interferometric phase sensor, a Michelson interferometer whose output is combined coherently with a phase-modulated local oscillator beam tapped off the Michelson input beam. This configuration models a whole class of external-modulation interferometers designed to shift signals, obscured by low-frequency intensity noise of the light source, into a shot-noise-limited region of the photocurrent spectrum. We find analytically that the shot-noise-limited sensitivity achievable with this system is comparable with that obtained by using internal phase modulation, with both schemes suffering (for different reasons) approximately a 22% sensitivity penalty compared with ideal shot-noise-limited direct detection. Experimentally we achieve true shot-noise-limited sensitivity, and we investigate trade-offs necessitated by commonly encountered nonideal features in any external-modulation system. Our analytic model, which specifically accounts for Michelson fringe contrast, electronic receiver noise, phase-modulation depth, and the local oscillator tap-off fraction, is sufficiently accurate to predict the absolute sensitivity of our benchtop instrument to within 0.5 dB.

A underlying complex dynamical behavior of double Allee effects in predator-prey system is studied in this article to understand the predator-prey relation more intensely from different aspects. We first propose a system with the Caputo sense fractional-order predator-prey system incorporating the Allee effect in prey populations to explain how the memory effect can change the different emergent states. Photothermal disinfection (PTD) offers promising potential for water purification due to its sustainable and broad-spectrum bactericidal properties, although it is hindered by slow charge separation in photosensitizers. Herein, we present a plasma-mediated PTD technique utilizing an efficient localized heating effect induced by incident light at specific wavelengths for rapid bacterial inactivation. Alpha oscillations play a critical role in visual working memory (VWM), but the specific contributions of lower and upper alpha sub-bands remain unclear. To address this, we employed a whole-field change detection paradigm to investigate how alpha power modulation and decoding accuracy differ between these sub-bands in response to varying set sizes and spatial extents of memory arrays. Our results revealed that lower alpha (8-9 Hz) exhibits widespread event-related desynchronization (ERD) during the early maintenance phase, which increases with set size and reflects attentional allocation to individual memory items.
