Mice develop obesity and lose myocardial metabolic flexibility months after exertional heat stroke.

As global temperatures rise, heat-related chronic health disorders are predicted to become more prevalent. We tested whether a single exposure to acute heat illness, using a preclinical mouse model of exertional heat stroke (EHS), can induce late-emerging health disorders that progress into chronic disease. Following EHS, mice were followed for 3 months; after two weeks of recovery, half were placed on a Western diet to determine if previous EHS exposure amplifies the negative consequences of an atherogenic diet.

Glucose-6-Phosphatase (G6Pase), a key enzyme in gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis in the mammalian liver and kidney, converts glucose-6-phosphate to glucose for maintaining systemic blood glucose homeostasis during nutrient deprivation. However, its function has remained elusive in insects, which have no need for G6Pase in sugar homeostasis since they convert glucose-6-phosphate to trehalose, their main circulating sugar, via trehalose phosphate synthase (TPS1). In this study we identify an unexpected and essential requirement for G6Pase in male fertility, specifically to produce motile sperm.

Background: Molariform second premolar is a rare dental anomaly where the second premolar resembles a molar in size and shape. This condition is often linked to macrodontia, a rare enlargement of teeth that disrupts dental proportions and can manifest in isolated, relative, or generalized forms. Although mandibular second premolars are more prone to morphological variability, the occurrence of bilateral molariform premolars, induced by a unique form of gemination, is exceptionally uncommon and infrequently documented, thus making this case clinically significant.

Background: The individual treatment response in people with relapsing-remitting multiple sclerosis (RRMS) remain unpredictable. In order to support medical decisions, we aimed to predict response to fingolimod compared to placebo, by developing and validating prognostic multivariable models.

Methods: We included two-year follow-up from intention-to-treat populations of two multi-country placebo-controlled randomized controlled trials (RCT) of daily fingolimod 0.

Oncologic and Operative Outcomes of Robotic Staging Surgery Using Low Pelvic Port Placement in High-Risk Endometrial Cancer.

Curr Oncol

December 2024

Division of Gynecologic Oncology, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Ajou University School of Medicine, Suwon 16499, Republic of Korea.

Upper para-aortic lymph node dissection (PALND) is one of the most challenging gynecologic robotic procedures. This study aimed to evaluate the oncologic and operative outcomes of robotic staging surgery, including upper PALND, using low pelvic port placement (LP3) in 22 patients with high-risk endometrial cancer. High-risk was defined as patients who showed deep myometrial invasion with grade III, cervical involvement, or high-risk histology.
