Moxifloxacin plus Cordyceps polysaccharide ameliorate intestinal barrier damage due to abdominal infection via anti-inflammation and immune regulation under simulated microgravity.

Life Sci Space Res (Amst)

Department of General Surgery, the 306th Hospital of PLA-Peking University Teaching Hospital, Beijing 100101, PR China; Department of General Surgery, the Ninth Medical Center of PLA General Hospital, Beijing 100101, PR China. Electronic address:

Background: Currently, there is limited research on the impact of abdominal infection on intestinal damage under microgravity conditions. Cordyceps polysaccharide (CPS), the main active ingredient of Cordyceps, has demonstrated various pharmacological effects, including anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, and immunomodulatory properties. Moxifloxacin (MXF) is a fourth-generation quinolone antibiotic that is believed to have a dual regulatory effect on immune system activation and suppression.

Background: Rising antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an acute public health emergency impeding the clinical efficacy of surgical interventions. Biliary stent placement is one of the routine surgical procedures that rarely lead to infections that are empirically managed by broad-spectrum β-lactams and fluoroquinolones. Critical priority pathogens, such as carbapenem-resistant Escherichia coli challenge treatment outcomes and infection prevention.

Prevalence and characterization of IncQ1α-mediated multi-drug resistance in Isolated from pigs in Kunming, Yunnan, China.

Front Microbiol

January 2025

Yunnan Joint International R&D Center of Veterinary Public Health, College of Veterinary Medicine, Yunnan Agricultural University, Kunming, China.

Background: is a conditionally pathogenic bacterium that is inherently resistant to polymyxin and tigecycline, largely due to antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs). These ARGs can be horizontally transferred to other bacteria, raising concerns about the Inc plasmid-mediated ARG transmission from , which poses a serious public health threat. This study aims to investigate the presence of Inc plasmid types in pig-derived in Kunming, Yunnan, China.

Rationale: Although the guidelines generally omit routine antibiotic prophylaxis for diagnostic bronchoscopy, this recommendation is primarily based on studies with relatively small sample sizes conducted at single institutions. Moreover, the applicability of recent technical and procedural advancements to these guidelines remains uncertain.

Objectives: To evaluate whether oral prophylactic antibiotic administration for diagnostic bronchoscopy reduces post-bronchoscopy infections among non-infectious diseases in the current setting.

Double Povidone-Iodine 5% Preparation Before Cataract Surgery for Endophthalmitis Prevention.

Eye Contact Lens

January 2025

UPMC Eye Center (J.L.O., L.Z., A.M., E.G.R., R.M.Q.S., D.K.D.), University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, Pittsburgh, PA; Charles T. Campbell Laboratory of Ophthalmic Microbiology (A.M., E.G.R., R.M.Q.S., D.K.D.), Department of Ophthalmology, University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, PA; Associated Retina Consultants (J.L.O.), Phoenix, AZ; and San Antonio Eye Center (J.W.), San Antonio, TX.

Objective: To compare endophthalmitis rates after cataract extraction in patients with different preoperative prophylaxis: double povidone-iodine preparation with topical antibiotics versus a control group.

Methods: All cases of postoperative endophthalmitis over the last 17 years were reviewed. Incidence rates of endophthalmitis for all cataract surgeries (current procedural terminology codes 66982 and 66984) performed by 26 surgeons were calculated.
