Group A variants defined with a monoclonal anti-A reagent.

Published: February 1990

Unusual serologic findings mimicking the B(A) phenomenon were noted in two group B blood donors using blended murine monoclonal anti-A reagent. With additional studies, including a binding experiment using affinity chromatography, the presence of aberrant group A activities was confirmed. This observation suggests that persons with atypical B(A) phenotype may warrant further investigation to delineate the ABO blood group.

Aim: Hypothyroidism is created by disruption of thyroid hormone production, which can destroy the emotional, relational, social, and working life of patients if left untreated. Hypothyroidism has multiple etiologies. We evaluated the relationship of hematological parameters and inflammatory biomarkers with thyroid hormones to find the potential use of these items in patients screening and prognosis.

Isatuximab is an IgG1-derived monoclonal antibody against CD38 approved for the treatment of adult patients with multiple myeloma. Here we describe the successful treatment of a therapy-refractory pure red cell aplasia case following ABO-mismatched allogeneic stem cell transplantation with isatuximab. Our patient was a 75-year-old female with acute myeloid leukemia who received an HLA-B antigen mismatched, unrelated peripheral blood stem cell transplant with a major ABO incompatibility (blood group A+ in the donor and blood group O+ in the recipient).

The biosynthesis of agglutinogenic and adsorbing groups A and B glycotopes of the erythrocyte's membrane is mediated by the activity of specific glycosyltransferases. This study aimed to assess the nature of the biosynthesis of A and B antigenic glycotopes, depending on the pH of the medium during the cultivation of erythrocytes, and the antigenic (transferase) characteristics of the donor serum of the other group. Monoclonal antibodies (Mabs) were obtained from IGBRL under Program IV of the International Workshop on Monoclonal Antibodies and Red Blood Cell Antigens.

With antimicrobial resistance (AMR) emerging as a major threat to global health, monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) have become a promising means to combat difficult-to-treat AMR infections. Unfortunately, in contrast with standard antimicrobials, for which there are well-validated clinical laboratory methodologies to determine whether an infecting pathogen is susceptible or resistant to a specific antimicrobial drug, no assays have been described that can inform clinical investigators or clinicians regarding the clinical efficacy of a MAb against a specific pathogenic strain. Using Acinetobacter baumannii as a model organism, we established and validated 2 facile clinical susceptibility assays, which used flow cytometry and latex bead agglutination, to determine susceptibility (predicting in vivo efficacy) or resistance (predicting in vivo failure) of 1 newly established and 3 previously described anti-A.

The continuous evolution of H5Nx highly pathogenic avian influenza viruses (HPAIVs) is a major concern for accurate diagnosis. We encountered some challenges in subtyping and sequencing a recently isolated H5N1 HPAIV strain using classical diagnostic methods. Oropharyngeal, conjunctival, and cloacal swabs collected from a dead white-tailed eagle ( were screened via real-time RT-PCR targeting the influenza A virus matrix (M) gene, followed by virus isolation.
