In this study, a novel magnetic composite adsorbent with an alginate-chamotte clay outer layer and a gelatin-magnetite core was synthesised for effective contaminant removal from aqueous solutions. The alginate component ensures biocompatibility, chamotte clay enhances adsorption, gelatin provides mechanical strength, and magnetite enables easy recovery of the adsorbent. The composite material was characterised using Fourier-transform infrared, X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy-energy-dispersive X-ray analysis, micro-computed tomography, Brunauer-Emmett-Teller analysis and dynamic mechanical analysis techniques.

Cell-penetrating peptides (CPPs) have been employed to enhance the cellular uptake and intracellular delivery of various nanocarriers. Among them, nanoparticles (NPs) have been used as suitable vehicles for delivering different bioactive molecules in the treatment of a diverse range of diseases. Given the pivotal role of the conjugation method of CPPs, this study aims to evaluate the impact of the position of a cell-penetrating motif (LFVCR) on the biocompatibility, cellular uptake, and endosomal escape of magnetite NPs.

Iron oxide nanoparticles were synthesized using a vortex microfluidic system and subsequently functionalized with a primary shell of salicylic acid, recognized for its ability to increase the stability and biocompatibility of coated materials. In the second stage, the vortex platform was placed in a magnetic field to facilitate the growth and development of a porous silica shell. The selected drug for this study was micafungin, an antifungal agent well regarded for its effectiveness in combating fungal infections and identified as a priority compound by the World Health Organization (WHO).

Background And Purpose: Bladder cancer has high recurrence rates despite standard treatments, necessitating innovative therapeutic approaches. This study introduces magnetically powered microrobots utilizing Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Spora Lygodii (SL) encapsulated with Doxorubicin (DOX) and FeO nanoparticles (Fe/DOX@SL) for targeted therapy.

Methods: FeO nanoparticles were synthesized via co-precipitation and combined with SL spores and DOX through dip-coating to form Fe/DOX@SL microrobots.

Minocycline nanoplatform penetrates the BBB and enables the targeted treatment of Parkinson's disease with cognitive impairment.

J Control Release

January 2025

School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Science and Technology Innovation Center, Guangzhou University of Chinese Medicine, Guangzhou 510405, China. Electronic address:

Parkinson's disease (PD)-induced motor dysfunction and cognitive impairment are becoming increasingly common due to global population aging. However, efficient treatment strategies for these conditions are still lacking. Recent studies indicated that neuroinflammation and neuronal apoptosis could greatly worsen the symptoms of PD.
