A bifunctional metalloligand with metal-C (Ge-C) bonds, bis(carboxyethylgermanium) sesquioxide (H(2)E(2)Ge(2)O(3), where E = -CH(2)CH(2)COO(-)), has been used to make metal-organometallic frameworks (MOMFs) Cd(1.5)(E(3)Ge(3)O(5)) (1) and Pb(E(2)Ge(2)O(3)) (2). In the structures, the inorganic Ge(2)O(3) cores of the metalloligands polymerize to form two kinds of infinite Ge-O chains, and the organic carboxyls induce the Cd and Pb ions to produce Cd-O and Pb-O chains. Further, the Ge-O chains link the Cd-O/Pb-O chains via -CH(2)CH(2)- groups to result in two novel MOMFs, showing high thermostability and blue-violet emission.

We describe the application of a mild, molecular-based, hydride metathesis protocol for the preparation of metastable germanium(II) dihydrides with compositions approaching [GeH]. The common starting material for this work [Ge(OBu)] was prepared in a high yield and shown to undergo OBu/H exchange at Ge with the hydride sources pinacolborane (HBpin), catecholborane (HBcat), and diisobutylaluminum hydride (DIBAL-H) to give the [GeH] materials as yellow to orange solids. Heating one of these [GeH] materials to 200 °C affords a narrowing of the optical band gap (from 2.

Knowledge of the molecular-level structure of the LiGeO melt is essential to understand its basic physicochemical properties. In this work, in situ Raman spectroscopy, factor group analysis, and density functional theory (DFT) calculations were applied to investigate the LiGeO crystal Raman spectrum and its transformation during the crystal melting process. Finally, the LiGeO melt structure was determined.

Seven novel open-framework uranyl germanates, K(UO)GeO, K(UO)GeO, α-Cs(UO)GeO, β-Cs(UO)GeO, Cs(UO)GeO, and A(UO)(GeO) (A = [NaKCl], [NaCsCl]), were grown from different mixed molten fluxes. The three-dimensional (3D) structure of K(UO)GeO with 8-ring channels can be built upon [UGe] pentamer secondary building units (SBUs). The 3D framework of K(UO)GeO with trapezoid (GeO) clusters consists of two types of [UGe] pentamers.

A series of lanthanide-germanate oxo clusters, [Ln(phen)Ge(μ-O)T(HO)]·2HO [Ln = Dy (1a) and Er (1b); T = -CHCHCOO group; phen = 1,10-phenanthroline], [Ln(phen)Ge(μ-O)T(HO)]·2phen·16HO [Ln = Sm (2a), Eu (2b), and Gd (2c)], and [Ho(phen)Ge(μ-O)T(HO)]·2phen·13HO (3), have been hydrothermally synthesized from the reactions of bis(carboxyethylgermanium sesquioxide) and LnO with auxiliary phen chromophores. Compounds 1a and 1b consist of cage clusters [Ln(phen)Ge(μ-O)T(HO)] and free HO molecules, where cage clusters are arranged in a CsCl type, while compounds 2a-2c consist of cage clusters [Ln(phen)Ge(μ-O)T(HO)], free phen, and free HO molecules, where cage clusters are arranged in a NaCl type. Compound 3 consists of the one-dimensional neutral chain [Ho(phen)Ge(μ-O)T(HO)] and free HO molecules.

Of organogermanium compounds known to have an immunostimulatory action, propagermanium [PGe; 3-oxygermylpropionic acid polymer, (C3 H5 GeO3.5 )n] is the only one used as a pharmaceutical agent, to treat the hepatitis B virus in Japan. However, because of lack of information about its structure, PGe has been confused with a polymeric solid, repagermanium (RGe, Ge-132, poly-trans-[(2-carboxyethyl) germasesquioxane], (C18 H30 Ge6 O21 )n), which has the same essential formula as PGe.
