Graphite is a highly versatile electrode substrate material but the recorded voltammetric response is regularly complicated by varying degrees of adsorption of the analyte to the surface leading to voltammetry which is complex to analyse. We report how through the pre-adsorption of acetone the electro-activity of the substrate is unhindered but adsorption of an electro-active species is effectively blocked, hence the experimentalist is able to readily tailor the electrode so as to effectively switch the adsorption of the analyte 'on' or 'off'.

Significant progress has been made in the last two decades in producing small (<2μm), high-purity, and low-adsorption particles, columns and system hardware, for ultra-high pressure liquid chromatography (UHPLC). Simultaneously, the recent rapid expansion of cell and gene therapies for treating diseases necessitates novel analytical technologies for analyzing large (>2 kbp) plasmid double-stranded (ds) DNA (which encodes for the in vitro transcription (IVT) of single-stranded (ss) mRNA therapeutics) and dsRNAs (related to IVT production impurities) biopolymers. In this context, slalom chromatography (SC), a retention mode co-discovered in 1988, is being revitalized using the most advanced column technologies for improved determination of the critical quality attributes (CQAs) of such new therapeutics.

Efficient enrichment of analytes and purification of matrices are crucial for the highly sensitive detection and monitoring of pesticides in traditional Chinese herbs. This work prepared magnetic ionic liquid-controlled covalent organic framework (IL-COF@FeO) as the sorbent via a simple in-situ precipitation polymerization and thiolene "click" strategy. The IL-COF@FeO exhibited remarkable adsorption performance towards pyrethroids within 5 min.

Slippery liquid-infused porous surfaces (SLIPSs) are a class of surface that offers low contact angle hysteresis and low tilt angle for water droplet shedding. This property also endows the surface with pinning-free evaporation, which in turn has been exploited for analyte concentration enrichment for Surface Enhanced Raman Spectroscopic applications and antibiofouling. Herein, we demonstrate a facile approach for creating SLIPS with low contact angle hysteresis and low tilt angle for water shedding by coating the equal-volume mixture of polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and silicone oil.
