Recent Advances of Photocatalytic CO Reduction Based on Hybrid Molecular Catalyst/Semiconductor Photocatalysts: A Review.

Molecular catalysts often exhibit superior activity and selectivity in the process of photocatalytic reduction of CO (PCR). However, the practical application of molecular catalysts is restricted by the unsatisfied charge separation, low stability, and recycling difficulty. Fortunately, constructing organic-inorganic hybrids of molecular catalysts and semiconductors can tackle the above problems, which can improve the efficiency of charge separation and keep beneficial active sites simultaneously.

Developing rechargeable batteries with high power delivery at low temperatures (LT) below 0 °C is significant for cold-climate applications. Initial anode-free sodium metal batteries (AFSMBs) promise high LT performances because of the low de-solvation energy and smaller Stokes radius of Na, nondiffusion-limited plating/stripping electrochemistry, and maximized energy density. However, the severe reduction in electrolyte ionic conductivity and formation of unstable solid electrolyte interphase (SEI) hinder their practical applications at LT.

Inorganic/organic heterojunctions show promising applications as high-performance sensing platforms for photoelectrochemical (PEC) immunosensors. This work reports constructing a PEC biosensor for CA15-3 based on a self-assembled perylene diimide (PDI) nanowire sensitized InO@MgInS S-scheme heterojunction platform. P-type semiconductor CuO nanoparticles were designed as a signal burst source and were used as immunoassay labels.

All-in-One: Plasmonic Janus Heterostructures for Efficient Cooperative Photoredox Catalysis.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

September 2024

State Key Laboratory of Photocatalysis on Energy and Environment, College of Chemistry, Fuzhou University, Fuzhou, 350116, China.

Janus heterostructures consisting of multiple jointed components with distinct properties have gained growing interest in the photoredox catalytic field. Herein, we have developed a facile low-temperature method to gain anisotropic one-dimensional Au-tipped CdS (Au-CdS) nanorods (NRs), followed by assembling Ru molecular co-catalyst (RuN) onto the surface of the NRs. The CdS NRs decorated with plasmonic Au nanoparticles and RuN complex harness the virtues of metal-semiconductor and inorganic-organic interface, giving directional charge transfer channels, spatially separated reaction sites, and enhanced local electric field distribution.

Article Synopsis
  • Researchers developed a technique to integrate 2D materials with organic semiconductors, specifically a SnSe/PTAA heterojunction array that performs well in trapping light.
  • The method used includes low-temperature molecular beam epitaxy and spin-coating, resulting in effective charge transfer due to strong C-Se covalent coupling.
  • The resulting photodetectors showed impressive performance metrics, including high responsivity and external quantum efficiency, suggesting their potential for advanced optoelectronic applications.
