Targeted Endodontic Microsurgery: Implications of the Greater Palatine Artery.

J Endod

January 2021

Air Force Postgraduate Dental School and Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences Postgraduate Dental College, Joint Base San Antonio--Lackland, Texas; Air Force Postgraduate Dental School and Hurlburt Field Dental Clinic, Hurlburt, Florida.

Introduction: Targeted Endodontic Microsurgery (TEMS) combines trephine burs and 3D-printed guides to make flapless maxillary palatal root-end surgery possible. This study assessed the location of the greater palatine artery (GPA), the relationship of the GPA to maxillary molar root ends, and the feasibility of flapless palatal-approach TEMS.

Methods: Three endodontists analyzed 250 cone-beam computed tomographic images of maxillary molars for (1) transition morphology between the hard palate and the alveolar process adjacent to first and second molars as an indication of the most likely location of the GPA, (2) the superior-inferior relationship between the GPA and root ends, and (3) the feasibility of palatal-approach TEMS.

Purpose: To evaluate bicuspid axial wall height effect on the fracture mode of adhesively luted, all-ceramic CAD/CAM crowns with a 20° total occlusal convergence (TOC).

Materials And Methods: Recently extracted premolars were randomly divided into 4 groups (n = 12) with all-ceramic crown preparations accomplished using a high-speed handpiece inserted into a milling device. Specimens were prepared containing occlusogingival axial wall heights of 3, 2, and 1 mm as well as a group containing a flat preparation surface with no axial wall height.

In 2007, it became mandated throughout the state. This was a paradigm shift for the dental community, and overall opinions varied widely on the topic.

Background: Children, particularly minority children, referred to child welfare because of suspected maltreatment are vulnerable and need many services. We sought to assess whether service use has improved over the past decade and whether racial-ethnic disparities in service use have decreased.

Methods: We used 2 national data sets (the National Survey of Child and Adolescent Well-Being [NSCAW] I and II) collected a decade apart to assess changes over time in health, education, mental health (MH), and dental services and overall service use.
