Several immunoregulatory or immune checkpoint receptors including T cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain 3 (TIM-3) have been implicated in glioblastoma progression. Rigorous investigation over the last decade has elucidated TIM-3 as a key player in inhibiting immune cell activation and several key associated molecules have been identified both upstream and downstream that mediate immune cell dysfunction mechanistically. However, despite several reviews being published on other immune checkpoint molecules such as PD-1 and CTLA-4 in the glioblastoma setting, no such extensive review exists that specifically focuses on the role of TIM-3 in glioblastoma progression and immunosuppression.

A Biomimetic Sweeping Microrobot for Active Therapy of Ulcerative Colitis.

Adv Mater

March 2025

NMPA Key Laboratory for Research and Evaluation of Drug Metabolism & Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of New Drug Screening, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Southern Medical University, Guangzhou, 510515, China.

Overproduction of pathogenic cell-free DNA (cfDNA) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) plays crucial roles in the onset and perpetuation of ulcerative colitis (UC). Inspired by sweeping robots, a magnesium@polylactic acid-glycolic acid copolymer@polyethylenimine (Mg@PLGA@PEI) microswimmer capable of cleaning off deleterious disease triggers along its path of progress is designed. Mg@PLGA@PEI is successfully synthesized by adopting a core-shell structure with a small opening which allows for Mg-water reaction.

RCA-Supported Multipedal DNA Walker Integrated with TSDR for Simultaneous Detection of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms in Circulating Tumor DNA.

Anal Chem

March 2025

Shandong Key Laboratory of Biophysics, Institute of Biophysics, Institute of Rural Revitalization, School of Pharmacy, Dezhou University, 253023 Dezhou, China.

Peripheral blood circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) is a crucial liquid biopsy biomarker that correlates overall systemic tumor burden with malignant progression. However, identifying multiple single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in ctDNA presents significant challenges. In this study, we developed a rolling circle amplification (RCA)-supported multipedal DNA walker integrated with toehold-mediated strand displacement (TSDR) to facilitate the detection of ctDNA SNPs.

Grid and place cells typically fire at progressively earlier phases within each cycle of the theta rhythm as rodents run across their firing fields, a phenomenon known as theta phase precession. Here, we report theta phase precession relative to turning angle in theta-modulated head direction cells within the anteroventral thalamic nucleus (AVN). As rodents turn their heads, these cells fire at progressively earlier phases as head direction sweeps over their preferred tuning direction.

The integration of second near-infrared (NIR-II) fluorescence imaging and photothermal therapy (PTT) achieved precise and efficient tumor treatment. BODIPY, a promising fluorescent dye, is widely used in biological fluorescence imaging due to its excellent optical properties and chemical stability. However, the excitation wavelengths of BODIPY typically range from 530 nm to 650 nm within the visible spectrum, which significantly limits tissue penetration.
