Article Synopsis
  • The study compared the costs of the current CDC 3-step HIV testing algorithm with a new single-test alternative (cobas) for efficiency in diagnosing HIV.
  • A decision-tree model estimated costs and testing needs for 1 million people, revealing significant reductions in total tests and retests required when using the alternative method.
  • Findings indicate that the new algorithm could simplify HIV testing processes, cut overall testing numbers, and keep healthcare costs stable, thereby improving patient outcomes.

The current study included a medical record review of 123 individuals who received a SAMFE at a hospital in the United States.

Background: Because cirrhosis is often unrecognized, we aimed to develop a stepwise screening algorithm for cirrhosis in the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and assess this approach's feasibility and acceptability.

Methods: VHA hepatology clinicians ("champions") were invited to participate in a pilot program from June 2020 to October 2022. The VHA Corporate Data Warehouse was queried to identify Veterans with possible undiagnosed cirrhosis using Fibrosis-4 (FIB-4) ≥ 3.
