Social bees, with their specialized gut microbiota and societal transmission between individuals, provide an ideal model for studying host-gut microbiota interactions. While the functional disparities arising from strain-level diversity of gut symbionts and their effects on host health have been studied in Apis mellifera and bumblebees, studies focusing on host-specific investigations of individual strains across different honeybee hosts remain relatively unexplored. In this study, the complete genomic sequences of 17 strains of Gilliamella from A.

The large majority of Alzheimer's disease (AD) cases are sporadic with unknown genetic causes. In contrast, only a small percentage of AD cases are familial, with known genetic causes. Paradoxically, there are only few validated mouse models of sporadic AD but many of familial AD.

Decontamination of DNA sequences from a Streptomyces genome for optimal genome mining.

Braz J Microbiol

January 2025

Department of Microbiology, Institute of Biomedical Sciences, University of São Paulo (USP), São Paulo, SP, 05508-900, Brazil.

Despite meticulous precautions, contamination of genomic DNA samples is not uncommon, which can significantly compromise the analysis of microorganisms' whole-genome sequencing data, thus affecting all subsequent analyses. Thanks to advancements in software and bioinformatics techniques, it is now possible to address this issue and prevent the loss of the entire dataset obtained in a contaminated whole-genome sequencing, where the DNA of another bacterium is present. In this study, it was observed that the sequencing reads from Streptomyces sp.

Background: To improve the prognosis of clinically resectable type 4 or large type 3 gastric cancer (GC), we performed a phase I/II study of neoadjuvant-radiotherapy combined with S-1 plus cisplatin.

Patients And Methods: Phase I, with a standard 3 + 3 dose-escalation design, was performed to define the recommended phase II dose. Efficacy and safety were evaluated in phase II.
