A new calorimeter for measurements of the heat capacity and magnetocaloric effect of small samples in pulsed magnetic fields is discussed for the exploration of thermal and thermodynamic properties at temperatures down to 2 K. We tested the method up to μ(0)H=50 T, but it could be extended to higher fields. For these measurements we used carefully calibrated bare-chip Cernox(®) and RuO(2) thermometers, and we present a comparison of their performances. The monotonic temperature and magnetic field dependences of the magnetoresistance of RuO(2) allow thermometry with a precision as good as ±4 mK at T=2 K. To test the performance of our calorimeter, heat capacity and magnetocaloric effect for the spin-dimer compound Sr(3)Cr(2)O(8) and the triangular lattice antiferromagnet RbFe(MoO(4))(2) are presented.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of different cold acclimation strategies on exercise performance in male mice exposed to low-temperature environments.
Methods: Male mice were subjected to five distinct acclimation regimens over 8 weeks: immersion at 10 °C (10 °CI) or 20 °C (20 °CI), swimming at 10 °C (10 °CS), 20 °C (20 °CS), or 34 °C (34 °CS). During the first 2 weeks, the acclimation time progressively decreased from 30 min to 3 min per day, and the water temperatures were lowered from 34 °C to the target levels, followed by 6 weeks of consistent exposure.

The heating oil circuit plays an essential role in the heating calendering roller for the lithium battery pole piece. To achieve the optimization of the heating oil circuit, a fluid-thermal-structural coupling method and a multi-objective optimization procedure are proposed to obtain the optimal solution. A fluid-thermal-structural coupling flowchart based on the numerical modeling for the calendering roller temperature distribution is created to automate the analysis processes in the optimization iteration.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are carcinogenic compounds resulting from incomplete burning of organic materials. This work describes the successful layer-by-layer fabrication of a novel zinc oxide nanocomposite made of zinc oxide nanoparticles, aniline, sodium dodecyl sulfate, and modified multi-walled carbon nanotubes on a stainless steel wire by electrodeposition. The coating and extraction conditions were screened, optimized, and validated using factorial design and central composite design, respectively.

Considering the growing need for developing ecological materials, this study investigates the acoustic, mechanical, and thermal properties of wood composites reinforced with beech or oak wood fibres. Scanning electron microscopy (SEM) revealed a complex network of interconnected pores within the composite materials, with varying pore sizes contributing to the material's overall properties. Acoustic characterization was conducted using a two-microphone impedance tube.
