The aim of the present study was a description of several microfilaremia cases diagnosed in dogs from Poland. The study was conducted on cytological samples of pathologic masses and peripheral blood smears taken for diagnostic purposes from dogs showing a various clinical findings. The presence of the parasites in tissue samples was observed in 8 dogs, additionally, in 2 of these dogs PCR analysis of blood samples revealed the presence of D. repens DNA.

Radiopaque lesions of the mandible are occasional findings in dental radiographs in dogs. The different diagnoses of densely sclerotic lesions in humans include odontoma, idiopathic osteosclerosis, condensing osteitis, hypercementosis, osteoma, osteoblastoma, and oral exostosis. Publications on many of these conditions in dogs are scarce.

Rocky Mountain spotted fever (RMSF) kills people and dogs in rural communities throughout the Americas and in urban epidemics in Brazil and Mexico. The companion Currents in One Health by Foley et al, AJVR , March 2025, addresses the urban ecology of this devastating disease across the Americas. Cases acquired from Dermacentor spp ticks are sylvatic and sporadic, in contrast with peridomestic cases from Rhipicephalus sanguineus sensu lato, which relies on dogs as hosts.

An 18-year-old male patient from Ukraine, living in Germany for 2 years, presented with a painless subcutaneous swelling on the left cheek that had been present for several months. Finally, the diagnosis of subcutaneous dirofilariasis caused by was confirmed by 12S rRNA gene PCR and sequencing from tissue by nematode-specific PCRs followed by sequencing after surgical resection of the lesion. Microfilaremia was ruled out and no further treatment was required.

Retinopathy with Vitamin E Deficiency (RVED) is a familial disease in the English Cocker Spaniel (ECS) dog breed. Ophthalmic abnormalities observed in RVED-affected ECS include lipofuscin granule deposition within the tapetal fundus and subsequent retinal degeneration resulting in visual deficits. Affected dogs may also exhibit neurological signs that include ataxia and hindlimb proprioceptive deficit.
