Protective effect of CK2 against endoplasmic reticulum stress in pancreatic β cells.

Diabetol Int

January 2025

Division of Diabetes and Endocrinology, Department of Internal Medicine, Kobe University Graduate School of Medicine, 7-5-2, Kusunoki-cho, Chuo-ku, Kobe, 650-0017 Japan.

Unlabelled: Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress due to obesity or systemic insulin resistance is an important pathogenic factor that could lead to pancreatic β-cell failure. We have previously reported that CCAAT/enhancer-binding protein β (C/EBPβ) is highly induced by ER stress in pancreatic β cells. Moreover, its accumulation hampers the response of these cells to ER stress by inhibiting the induction of the molecular chaperone 78 kDa glucose-regulated protein (GRP78).

Aim: To investigate the effect of weight loss and metabolic improvement after laparoscopic sleeve gastrectomy (LSG) in older adults aged 65 years or over compared with younger adults in a retrospective analysis.

Methods: The J-SMART study database of 322 Japanese individuals with body mass index (BMI) ≥32 kg/m who underwent LSG between 2011 and 2014 at 10 centers accredited by the Japanese Society for Treatment of Obesity were analyzed. The subjects were classified into two groups: ≥65 age group (range, 65-76 years; n = 25) and <65 age group (range, 22-64 years; n = 297).

Dapagliflozin treatment decreases visceral and subcutaneous adipose tissue: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Diabetol Int

January 2025

Facultad de Medicina, Benemérita Universidad Autónoma de Puebla, 13 Sur 2901 Colonia Volcanes, 72420 Puebla, Puebla México.

Aims: Sodium-glucose co-transporter-2 inhibitors (SGLT2i) have been shown to reduce visceral (VAT) and subcutaneous (SAT) adipose tissue. Although many systematic reviews have examined SGLT2i's effect on VAT and SAT, a focus analysis of dapagliflozin, one of the more commonly prescribe SGLT2i, has yet to been done. This study aims to determine the effect of dapagliflozin on reducing VAT and SAT in patients with chronic disease.

In order to determine the influence of different factors on the CO huff-and-puff displacement effect, a CO huff-and-puff experiment was carried out with Chang 6 tight sandstone samples in Ordos Basin as the research object. Combined with nuclear magnetic resonance technology, the influences of injection pressure, cycle numbers and soaking time on the CO huff-and-puff effect were evaluated, and the optimal CO huff-and-puff parameters were optimized. The microscopic degree of crude oil production in different scale pores was quantitatively characterized.
