Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) is the main regulator of the reproductive system, acting on gonadotropic cells by binding to the GnRH1 receptor (GnRH1R). Traditionally, therapies targeting this receptor have relied on peptide modulators, which required subcutaneous or intramuscular injections. Due to the limitations of the parenteral administrations, there is a growing interest in developing oral small molecule modulators of GnRH1R as more convenient therapeutic alternatives.

Protective effects of a mixed hot water extracts of Astragalus membranaceus (AWE) and Laminaria japonica (LWE), AWE: LWE 85:15 (g/g; AL mix), were investigated against propylthiouracil (PTU)-induced hypothyroidism in rats. Rats were challenged with PTU, resulting in, increased thyroid gland weight, decreased liver weight and antioxidant activities, reduced serum tri-iodothyronine and thyroxine levels with increased thyroid stimulating hormone levels, and elevated serum aspartate aminotransferase level. However, orally administered AL mix with 100, 200, and 400 mg kg day , significantly inhibited such abnormalities, dose-dependently.

The metabolic syndrome is defined by impaired carbohydrate metabolism and lipid disorders and often accompanied by hypertension, all of which will lead to obesity and insulin resistance. Glucocorticoids play a regulatory role in the metabolism of proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates. There is growing evidence for a role of glucocorticoids in the development of the metabolic syndrome.

Infections with human cytomegalovirus (HCMV) are highly prevalent in the general population as the virus has evolved the capacity to undergo distinct replication strategies resulting in lytic, persistent, and latent infections. During the latent life cycle, HCMV resides in subsets of cells within the hematopoietic cell compartment, including hematopoietic progenitor cells (HPCs) and peripheral blood monocytes. Since only a small fraction of these cell types harbor viral genomes during natural latency, identification and analysis of distinct changes mediated by viral infection are difficult to assess.

RATE-seq is a 4-thiouracil (4-tU)-based method that enables the in vivo measurement of transcriptome-wide RNA degradation rates. 4-tU is an analog of uracil that is rapidly incorporated into newly synthesized RNA and facilitates the conjugation of a biotinylated molecule containing a reactive thiol group. The biotinylated RNA can then be fractionated from the unlabeled RNA with streptavidin magnetic beads.
