Introduction: Maxillomandibular sygnathia is a rare and severe craniofacial deformity defined by gingival mucosal fusion (synechia) or bony fusion (synostosis).

Case Report: We will present a case of complete closure of the mouth since birth from eastern Morocco treated in our department of maxillofacial surgery at the University Hospital of Casablanca. The patient was referred after two months by the pediatrician of the provincial hospital and following the placement of a nasogastric tube.

Growth retardation, Alopecia, Pseudoanodontia and Optic atrophy (GAPO) syndrome is a rare autosomal recessive condition whose cardinal features include a recognizable craniofacial dysmorphosis, growth retardation, alopecia, pseudoanodontia, and premature aging. We report on a 2-year-old Pakistani man affected with GAPO syndrome who additionally shows an androgenetic-like alopecia with normal testosterone levels and telogen hair loss. These are novel findings in GAPO syndrome.

Naso-ethmoido-maxillary protrusion (NEMP) is a rare dental and facial dysmorphosis, with excessive growth of basicranium, ethmoid, maxillary, and nasal bones. The clinical presentation includes nasal and upper lip protrusion, telecanthus, a class 2 malocclusion with maxillary protrusion and exoclusion. The craniofacial field is increased in Delaire's analysis.

Construction and validation of the midsagittal reference plane based on the skull base symmetry for three-dimensional cephalometric craniofacial analysis.

J Craniofac Surg

March 2014

From the *Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, College of Dentistry, Yonsei University, Seoul; and †Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Daejeon Dental Hospital, College of Dentistry, Wonkwang University, Daejeon, Korea; ‡Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Stomatology Hospital of Guangzhou Medical College, Guangzhou, Guang Dong, China; and §Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, National Health Insurance Corporation Ilsan Hospital, Goyang, Korea.

Objective: The objective of this study was to determine the reliable midsagittal (MS) reference plane in practical ways for the three-dimensional craniofacial analysis on three-dimensional computed tomography images.

Methods: Five normal human dry skulls and 20 normal subjects without any dysmorphoses or asymmetries were used. The accuracies and stability on repeated plane construction for almost every possible candidate MS plane based on the skull base structures were examined by comparing the discrepancies in distances and orientations from the reference points and planes of the skull base and facial bones on three-dimensional computed tomography images.

[Study of asymmetries in the severe antero-posterior disharmonies].

Orthod Fr

September 2010

Département d'Orthopédie Dento-Faciale, Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse III, 3 chemin des Maraîchers, Toulouse, France.

Using the Treil 14 points cephalometric model orthodontists can prepare a complete cranio-facial anatomic assessment at three analytic levels: the framework or envelope, the basal bone and the alveolo-dental arcade. The assessment of border-line surgical antero-posterior dysmorphosis can elucidate interesting depictions of asymmetries, their relation to other malformities, and their genesis. Asymmetry arises from over-growth of one side of the face in all three dimensions of space even if, clinically, it often appears that one dimension is predominately affected.
