Climate change-induced flooding has caused public health crises in Borno State, Nigeria, which influence the increase of waterborne diseases and malnutrition. Flooding disrupts water and sanitation systems, creating breeding grounds for waterborne diseases such as cholera, malaria, and diarrheal illnesses. The displacement of communities and destruction of agricultural infrastructure due to flooding further increase food insecurity, leading to malnutrition.

Objectives: To decipher the social behaviors and public health status of a 19th-century small Western Pyrenean community using various historical demography data.
Methods: From censuses, civil and parish registers of births, marriages, and deaths/burials, migration archives, and administrative records, we analyzed a series of demographic parameters in the village of Aste-Béon between 1801 and 1900.
Results: Acknowledging the limitations of such a historical demography approach (especially losses of data and underreporting of deaths of very young individuals), this study enabled us to draw a series of conclusions.

Mono-ADP-ribosyl transferase (mART) proteins are secreted virulence factors produced by several human pathogens, the founding member being diphtheria toxin (DT). Pseudomonas aeruginosa can also secrete a mART toxin, known as exotoxin A (PE), but with an organization of its three functional domains (receptor, translocation, and enzymatic elements) that is opposite to DT. Two additional PE-like toxins (PLTs) have been identified from Vibrio cholerae and Aeromonas hydrophila, suggesting more PLT family members may exist.

Understanding the kinetics of antibody responses elicited by toxigenic infection can inform the Sero-epidemiological estimation of disease burden and impact of vaccination efforts. While antibody kinetics have been well-described in South Asia, such studies based in Africa are lacking, despite the ongoing prevalence of cholera in that region.
