Access to P-chiral H-phosphinates via desymmetrization of hypophosphite esters was investigated. The use of chiral auxiliaries, chiral catalysts, and of a bulky prochiral group that could lead to kinetic resolution was explored. A chiral NMR assay for enantiomeric excess determination of H-phosphinates was developed. An asymmetric route to C-chiral H-phosphinates is also examined and an assay was developed.

The rational design of non-fullerene acceptors (NFAs) with both high crystallinity and photoluminescence quantum yield (PLQY) is of crucial importance for achieving high-efficiency and low-energy-loss organic solar cells (OSCs). However, increasing the crystallinity of an NFA tends to decrease its PLQY, which results in a high non-radiative energy loss in OSCs. Here we demonstrate that the crystallinity and PLQY of NFAs can be fine-tuned by asymmetrically adapting the branching position of alkyl chains on the thiophene unit of the L8-BO acceptor.

The fabrications of circularly polarized luminescent (CPL) material are mainly based on the chemical and physical strategies. Controlled biosynthesis of CPL-active materials is beset with difficulties due to the lack of bioactive luminescent precursors and bio-reactors. Enlighted by microbe-assisted asymmetric biosynthesis, herein, we show the in situ bacterial fermentation of Komagataeibacter sucrofermentants to fabricate a series of bacterial cellulosic biofilms with CPL of green, orange, red, and near-infrared colors.

Pd-Catalyzed Asymmetric Synthesis of Chiral 2-Trifluoromethyl-4-(indol-3-yl)-4-chromene Derivatives.

This paper presents a new strategy for the construction of the chiral 4-chromene skeleton. A series of chiral 2-trifluoromethyl-4-(indol-3-yl)-4-chromenes were synthesized in moderate to good yields (60-92%) with excellent enantioselectivity (up to 97% ee) through the palladium-catalyzed asymmetric condensation of 2-chromenes and indoles. These trifluoromethylated, stereochemically rich building blocks hold potential value in medicinal chemistry.

3D porous carbon electrodes have attracted significant attention for advancing compressible supercapacitors (SCs) in flexible electronics. The micro- and nanoscale architecture critically influences the mechanical and electrochemical performance of these electrodes. However, achieving a balance between high compressive strength, electrochemical stability, and cost-effective sustainable production remains challenging.

Enantioselective Catalytic Synthesis of Inherently Chiral Calixarenes.

Chem Rec

January 2025

Chongqing Key Laboratory of Natural Product Synthesis and Drug Research, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chongqing University, Chongqing, 401331, P. R. China.

Since the introduction of the concept of inherent chirality by Böhmer, an important part of research focused on the asymmetric synthesis of calixarene macrocycles. However, long synthetic procedures and tedious separation strategies hampered the application of this technology in many topics of organic chemistry, including enantioselective molecular recognition and catalysis. Very recently, a new generation of enantioselective catalytic methodologies has been reported, able to provide highly functionalized, inherently chiral calixarenes in a straightforward manner.
