[The birth of nephrology in Brussels: P.-P. Lambert].

The career and scientific contributions of Professor P.-P. Lambert (1910-1999) are outlined. They remain an outstanding example of clinical investigation, resting on a demanding bedside approach fertilized by laboratory research. P.-P. Lambert was a founding member of the Société de néphrologie which he presided from 1960 to 1962.
