Leiomyomas of the ventral ligament (LVLs) of the oviduct from 2-year-old spent layers were examined. These tumours can be present either as single large masses or as multiple smaller nodules. The most common site of origin of the tumours was the centre of the free margin of the ventral ligament, but some small tumours were observed at the insertion of this ligament into the magnum of the oviduct. Most samples were highly vascular and some blood vessels within the tumours had vacuolation of the smooth muscle cells. These findings suggest that the proliferative processes leading to LVLs may include transformation of the blood vessels of the ventral ligament. Immunohistochemically, the tumour cells expressed vimentin, α-smooth muscle actin, desmin and heavy-caldesmon. These avian leiomyomas have been proposed as a model for similar tumours in other species.

Impact of Ovarian Suspensory Ligament Rupture on Surgical Stress in Elective Ovariohysterectomy in Bitches.

Ovariohysterectomy (OVH) is a common procedure in bitches, where ovarian suspensory ligament (OSL) rupture facilitates hemostasis but may also have adverse effects. Given the importance of minimizing the surgical stress response, this study aimed to evaluate the impact of OSL rupture in 20 healthy bitches undergoing elective open OVH; a celiotomy via the ventral midline was performed, and hemostasis achieved using bipolar coagulation, either with OSL rupture (OSL-R) or without (OSL-NR). Pain was assessed over 24 h post-surgery using the Visual Analogue Scale and the Short Form of the Glasgow Composite Measure Pain Scale.

Background: In proximal hypospadias, ventral curvature is invariable and most have penoscrotal transposition, and we observed that the base of the penis (BOP) was located on the inferior aspect of the pubic bones in those, in contrast to the location of the BOP at the anterior end in normal penises. We also observed an unfused bulbospongiosus muscle (BSM) at surgery in those. The aim was to assess the impact of repairing the unfused BSM or transection and straightening of the urethral plate at the first operation on the low BOP.

Objectives: Toothaches are often poorly localized. Although periodontal pain is better localized, it can spread to other areas. Ultimately, the cerebral cortex processes nociception, with somatotopic organization possibly playing a role in localizing the origin.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study evaluated the effectiveness of one-piece resection for treating ventral intradural extramedullary spinal meningiomas (VIESMs) by analyzing demographic and surgical data from patients treated between January 2017 and December 2023.
  • - A total of 27 patients (average age 63.37) underwent the procedure, with results showing no recurrences on MRI and significant improvement in neurological status for 74.07% of the cases, although one patient faced cerebrospinal fluid leakage.
  • - The findings conclude that one-piece resection is a safe and effective method for VIESMs, emphasizing techniques like maintaining a clear surgical corridor and careful dural coagulation to minimize complications and recurrence.
