The attachment of water molecules onto size selected protonated water clusters has been experimentally investigated. Absolute attachment cross sections are measured as a function of cluster size, collision energy, and initial cluster temperature. Although thermal evaporation is ruled out in our experiment, attachment cross sections become significantly smaller than hard sphere cross sections as the collision energy increases. This feature is attributed to a transition from adiabatic to nonadiabatic regime. It is shown to be due to a dynamical effect: as the collision duration becomes shorter than the typical time required for collision energy redistribution into clusters internal energy, the attachment probability is reduced. We relate this typical time to the period of the main surface vibrational mode excited by the collisions. This hypothesis is further supported by results obtained with deuterated water clusters.

The clinical presentation and epidemiology of infective endocarditis (IE) have evolved over time. While the cornerstones of IE treatment remain antimicrobial therapy and surgery, percutaneous mechanical aspiration (PMA) has emerged as an option for carefully selected patients as a complementary modality, based on retrospective data, case series, and expert experience. In this comprehensive review, we summarize the proceedings from an inaugural summit dedicated to the discussion of PMA in the global management of IE, consisting of experts across multiple disciplines from diverse geographic regions and care environments.

We report photodissociation processes and spectral measurements upon photoabsorption of size-selected cationic silver clusters, Ag, stored in an ion trap. The experiment shows that small clusters ( ≲ 15) dissociate upon one-photon absorption, whereas larger ones require multiple photons up to five in the present study. The emergence of multi-photon processes is attributed to collisional cooling in the presence of a buffer helium gas in the trap, which competes with size-dependent dissociation rates.
