MR spectroscopy (MRS) is a widely used and useful additional tool in the diagnostic process of several neuropsychiatric disorders. Despite several MRS studies in bipolar spectrum research, establishing a clean image about special metabolite alterations in the disorder still needs further investigation. The first part of this case study presents a bipolar II patient and her first 3T MR spectroscopy in drug-naive conditions, comparing to a healthy subject. Having finished the first MRS investigation, we applied lamotrigine medication. The ongoing second part of the study will show the data of the second MRS scan, after 5 month of lamotrigine therapy.

Background: Refractory epilepsy poses significant challenges in clinical management due to its resistance to standard antiepileptic therapies, necessitating the exploration of more effective treatment regimens. Lamotrigine, with its proven efficacy and tolerability, offers potential benefits when combined with traditional medications like valproate, though its comprehensive impact on clinical outcomes and neurological markers requires further study.

Objective: To analyze the improvement effect of combined application of lamotrigine on refractory epilepsy patients and its impact on patients' EEG and neurological function.

Nontargeted and suspect screening with liquid chromatography-high resolution mass spectrometry (LC-HRMS) has become an indispensable tool for quality assessment in the aquatic environment - complementary to targeted analysis of organic (micro)contaminants. An LC-HRMS method is presented, suitable for the analysis of a wide variety of water related matrices: surface water, groundwater, wastewater, sediment and sludge, including extracts from passive samplers and on-site solid phase enrichment, while focusing on the data processing aspect of the method. A field study is included to demonstrate the practical application and versatility of the whole process.

This study aimed to model the pharmacokinetics of lamotrigine (LTG) and efavirenz (EFV) in pregnant women using physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) and pregnancy-specific PBPK (p-PBPK) models. For lamotrigine, the adult PBPK model demonstrated accurate predictions for pharmacokinetic parameters. Predictions for the area under the curve (AUC) and peak plasma concentration (Cmax) generally agreed well with observed values.

Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a powerful method in analytical chemistry, but its application in real-life medical settings has been limited due to technical challenges. In this work, we introduce an innovative approach that is meant to advance the automation of microfluidics SERS to improve reproducibility and label-free quantification of two widely used therapeutic drugs, methotrexate (MTX) and lamotrigine (LTG), in human serum. Our methodology involves a miniaturized solid-phase extraction (μ-SPE) method coupled to a centrifugal microfluidics disc with incorporated SERS substrates (CD-SERS).
