Published: January 2011

Supported gold nanoparticles (NPs), which are well-known epoxidation catalysts, were found to be exceptionally active for the selective deoxygenation of epoxides into alkenes using cheap and easily accessible CO and H(2)O as the reductant.

Post-transcriptional modifications at the anticodon stem-loop of tRNAs are key to the translation function. Metabolic pathways to these modifications often incorporate complex enzymology. A notable example is the hypermodified nucleoside, queuosine, found at the wobble position of Asn, Asp, His, and Tyr encoding tRNAs.

Cyclophellitol is a potent and selective mechanism-based retaining β-glucosidase inhibitor that has served as a versatile starting point for the development of activity-based glycosidase probes (ABPs). We developed routes of synthesis of eight mono- and dideoxycyclophellitols and cyclophellitol aziridines, the latter as ABPs carrying either a biotin or fluorophore linked to the aziridine nitrogen. We reveal the potency of these 24 compounds as inhibitors of the three human retaining β-glucosidases, GBA1, GBA2 and GBA3.

Chemicals and fuels from lipid-containing biomass: A comprehensive exploration.

Biotechnol Adv

October 2024

Department of Earth Resources & Environmental Engineering, Hanyang University, Seoul 04763, Republic of Korea. Electronic address:

In response to address the climate crisis, there has been a growing focus on substituting conventional refinery-derived products with those derived from biorefineries. The utilization of lipids as primary materials or intermediates for the synthesis of chemicals and fuels, which are integral to the existing chemical and petrochemical industries, is a key step in this transition. This review provides a comprehensive overview of the production of sustainable chemicals (acids and alcohols), biopolymers, and fuels (including gasoline, kerosene, biodiesel, and heavy fuel oil) from lipids derived from terrestrial and algal biomass.

PPh-Promoted Direct Deoxygenation of Epoxides to Alkenes.

Deoxygenation of epoxides into alkenes is one of the most important strategies in organic synthesis, biomass conversions, and medicinal chemistry. Although metal-catalyzed direct deoxygenation provides one of the most commonly encountered protocols for the conversion of epoxides to alkenes, the requirement of expensive catalysts and extra reductants has largely limited their universal applicability. Herein, we report an efficient PPh-promoted metal-free strategy for deoxygenation of epoxides to generate alkene derivatives.
