The purpose of this study was to test the difference between the strength of the marginal ridge of extracted teeth with a Class I composite resin restoration and the strength of the marginal ridge of teeth with a Class II amalgam restoration with retention grooves. A statistically significant difference in fracture strengths was found among groups. No statistically significant difference was found among restored preparations, beveling technique, and restorative material. Statistically significant differences in fracture strength were found between the whole tooth group and treatment groups; between the whole tooth group and Class II amalgam restoration group; and between the unrestored tooth preparation group and all other tooth groups.

Subsequently, the transcrestal sinus lift technique was introduced, offering distinct advantages in terms of indications and reduced morbidity. Most recently, short implants have emerged as a valid alternative to these procedures, even in cases of severe horizontal resorption, allowing for direct placement in many cases.

Introduction: The aim of this study was to evaluate the long-term treatment outcomes of basal implants in patients with severely resorbed ridges, including the survival and success rates, patient complaints, satisfaction, and Quality of Life.
Evidence Acquisition: An extensive electronic search was conducted on the search engines: PubMed, Web of Science, and Google Scholar using Boolean Operators (AND, OR, NOT) and the key words (basal implants, Corticobasal implants, Strategic Implants, severely resorbed ridge, severely atrophic ridge, treatment outcome, patient satisfaction) within the last 10 years.
Evidence Synthesis: A total of 21 articles were found, encompassing 9732 basal implants placed in 1219 patients.

Slab windows represent regions within the mantle that are largely devoid of slab material, facilitating direct communication between the mantle above and below the subducting slab. This unprecedented interaction disrupts the conventional material-energy exchange mechanisms between the subducted slab and mantle wedge, giving rise to anomalous heat flow, distinct magmatism, metamorphism, and geophysical features. Geochemical analyses of samples collected from the southern margin of the Parece-Vela Basin have illuminated the magmatic processes associated with a slab window.
