Numerous techniques have been described to correct deviated nose deformities. This article discussed the Z-shaped asymmetric hump resection combined with unilateral osteotomy. Fifty-eight cases that we operated between 2003 and 2009 for deviated nose deformity were included in the study. In this study, septoplasty was performed in all patients, and hump was resected Z-shaped whereas osteotomy was carried out in a unilateral low to low fashion. Edema and periorbital ecchymosis were minimal on the nonosteotomy side in early postoperative period in all cases, and deviation was noted to be satisfactorily corrected in the late postoperative period. Three cases were reoperated in late stage for mucosal synechiae and 1 case for a new postoperative trauma (6.8% revision). Z-shaped asymmetric hump resection combined with unilateral osteotomy is one of the minimally traumatic methods that can safely be used to correct deviated nose.

Background: Symmetric sigmoidal models with four parameters based on an idealized S/Z-shaped curve are commonly used to analyze the optical parameters of thermochromic materials. However, our experimental findings show that this approach leads to systematic errors involving the incorrect estimation of the transition temperature or the possibility of a virtual indication of the hysteresis nature of a reversible thermochromic change. For this reason, we sought to find a five-parameter model that would appropriately avoid this problem.

Based on a V-shaped microactuator with a pair of beams, modifications were made to the length and width of a microactuator to observe the effects. A theoretical approach and numerical characterization of the modified microactuator were performed. Its performance was compared to a similar microactuator with equal beam widths, and a V-shaped microactuator.

Objective: To introduce a new surgical method for the repair of a large inner canthus combined with tissue loss at the inner canthal angle of the eye by using a bird-beak-type z-shaped asymmetrical flap and to summarize its clinical effect.
Method: A total of 56 patients with a large inner canthus were randomly selected, and a bird-beak-type z-shaped asymmetrical flap was used on the nasal side of the lower eyelid to repair and reconstruct the inner canthal folds. The inner canthal point was located according to physiological aesthetics.

Nuclear pore complexes (NPCs) mediate bidirectional nucleocytoplasmic transport of substances in eukaryotic cells. However, the accurate molecular arrangement of NPCs remains enigmatic owing to their huge size and highly dynamic nature. Here we determined the structure of the asymmetric unit of the inner ring (IR monomer) at 3.

Geometric diodes are planar conductors patterned asymmetrically to provide electrical asymmetry, and they have exhibited high-frequency rectification in infrared rectennas. These devices function by ballistic or quasi-ballistic transport in which the transport characteristics are sensitive to the device geometry. Common methods for predicting device performance rely on the assumption of totally ballistic transport and neglect the effects of electron momentum relaxation.
