Surgeons have been slow to incorporate industrial reliability techniques. Process control methods were applied to surgeon waiting time between cases, and to length of stay (LOS) after colon surgery. Waiting times between surgeries were evaluated by auditing the operating room records of a single hospital over a 1-month period. The medical records of 628 patients undergoing colon surgery over a 5-year period were reviewed. The average surgeon wait time between cases was 53 min, and the busiest surgeon spent 291/2 hr in 1 month waiting between surgeries. Process control charting demonstrated poor overall control of the room turnover process. Average LOS after colon resection also demonstrated very poor control. Mean LOS was 10 days. Weibull's conditional analysis revealed a conditional LOS of 9.83 days. Serious process management problems were identified in both analyses. These process issues are both expensive and adversely affect the quality of service offered by the institution. Process control mechanisms were suggested or implemented to improve these surgical processes. Industrial reliability and quality management tools can easily and effectively identify process control problems that occur on surgical services.

Background: Hypotensive episodes detected by 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure (BP) monitoring capture daily cumulative hypotensive stress and could be clinically relevant to cognitive impairment, but this relationship remains unclear.
Methods: We included participants from the Systolic Blood Pressure Intervention Trial (receiving intensive or standard BP treatment) who had 24-hour ambulatory BP monitoring measured near the 27-month visit and subsequent biannual cognitive assessments. We evaluated the associations of hypotensive episodes (defined as systolic BP drops of ≥20 mm Hg between 2 consecutive measurements that reached <100 mm Hg) and hypotensive duration (cumulative time of systolic BP <100 mm Hg) with subsequent cognitive function using adjusted linear mixed models.

The complexity of allosteric enzymatic regulation continues to inspire synthetic chemists seeking to emulate interconnected biological systems. In this work, a Pt2L4 cage capable of catalyzing the cyclization reaction of an alkynoic tosyl amide is orthogonally coupled to a diacid-catalyzed carbodiimide-hydration cycle. This new Pt-catalyzed cyclization reaction is demonstrated to exhibit electronic regulation by inclusion of different guest effectors.

Gesture recognition plays a significant role in human-machine interaction (HMI) system. This paper proposes a gesture-controlled reconfigurable metasurface system based on surface electromyography (sEMG) for real-time beam deflection and polarization conversion. By recognizing the sEMG signals of user gestures through a pre-trained convolutional neural network (CNN) model, the system dynamically modulates the metasurface, enabling precise control of the deflection direction and polarization state of electromagnetic waves.

Citrus Huanglongbing (HLB) represents a significant threat to the citrus industry, mainly caused by the phloem-limited bacterium Liberibacter asiaticus (Las). In this review, we summarize recent advances in understanding the relationship between citrus and Las, particularly examining the functions of Sec-dependent effectors (SDEs) and non-classically secreted proteins (ncSPs) in virulence, as well as their targeted interactions with citrus. We further investigate the impact of SDEs on various physiological processes, including systemic acquired resistance (SAR), reactive oxygen species (ROS) accumulation, vesicle trafficking, callose deposition, cell death, autophagy, chlorosis and flowering.

Introduction: is a perennial medicinal plant. It's generally cultivated for three years, and should avoid long-term continuous cultivation. However, unreasonable crop rotation and extensive fertilization are common in cultivation, which leads to the imbalance of soil microflora structure, and the obstacle of continuous cropping are becoming increasingly serious.
