Faculty of Medicine, University of Sao Paulo, Sao Paulo, Brazil.

Published: April 2011

Dermatosis caused by plants is relatively common and may occur by various pathogenic mechanisms. Dermatitis due to physical trauma, pharmacological action, irritation, sensitization, mediated by IgE and induced by light are described. Pseudophytodermatosis caused by plant-delivered elements is also described in the introduction to this work.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the synergistic effects of the chemotherapy drug Carfilzomib (CFZ) and Pistachio hull extract on the SK-BR3 breast cancer cell line.

Methods: In this experimental study, we evaluated the effect of Pistachio hull extract and CFZ as standalone treatments on cell viability using the MTT assay at 24- and 48-hours post-treatment. Following this, we conducted combination therapy analyses to assess the potential synergistic relationship between Pistachio hull extract and CFZ after 24- and 48-hours of treatment on both the SK-BR3 breast cancer cell line and the MCF10A normal cell line.

Laser Research Centre, Faculty of Health Sciences, Doornfontein Campus, University of Johannesburg, Johannesburg, 2028, South Africa.

Background: Amongst all neoplastic diseases, breast cancer represents a major cause of death among the female population in developed and developing countries. Since alkaloid drugs are commonly used in chemotherapy to manage this disease, this study investigated the anti-proliferative effectiveness of alkaloid-rich fractions of Senna didymobotrya leaves only and with laser irradiation against MCF-7 breast cancer cells.

Method And Materials: A powdered sample of the plant leaves was extracted with 50% ethanol, filtered and their pH was adjusted with acid and base solution followed by partitioning with chloroform and ethyl acetate solvents.

A camping trip will quickly become unpleasant if a horde of mosquitoes descends while you pitch your tent, or you find yourself in a patch of poison oak. Whether due to an insect bite, a poisonous plant, or a chronic skin disease, everyone has experienced the urgent sensation of itch and the sweet relief of scratching. The itch-scratch cycle is so powerful that just reading about itch or seeing someone scratching elicits a strong desire to scratch.

This review serves as a critical framework for guiding future research into the causes of russeting and the development of effective control strategies to enhance fruit quality. Russeting is a condition characterized by the formation of brown, corky patches on fruit skin which significantly impairs both the quality and market value of apples. This phenomenon arises from a complex interplay of various biotic and abiotic factors.

This study aimed to evaluate the therapeutic efficacy of camellia oil on 2,4-dinitrochlorobenzene (DNCB)-induced atopic dermatitis (AD) in mice, as well as its effect on the expression of skin-barrier-related proteins. A mouse model of AD was created via topical application of DNCB; subsequently, the animals were randomly divided into four groups: the blank control (Control), model (Model), moisturizing cream (Moisturizer), and camellia oil (Camellia) groups. The Camellia group received camellia oil, whereas the Moisturizer group was treated with moisturizing cream, as a positive control.
