The laboratory mouse (Mus musculus) is the most widely used mammalian model organism in biomedical and life science research. This concise guide aims to provide essential information to assist researchers new to working with mice, covering topics such as mouse husbandry, maintenance, and available resources for obtaining mouse strains and associated data. Additionally, we discuss ethical considerations, emphasizing the 3Rs (replacement, reduction, and refinement) to ensure responsible and humane research practices.

Objective: Humanity faces many health challenges, among which respiratory diseases are one of the leading causes of human death. Existing AI-driven pre-diagnosis approaches can enhance the efficiency of diagnosis but still face challenges. For example, single-modal data suffer from information redundancy or loss, difficulty in learning relationships between features, and revealing the obscure characteristics of complex diseases.

Poor water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) are the primary risks of exposure to enteric viral infection. Our study aimed to describe the role of WASH conditions and practices as risk factors for enteric viral infections in children under 5. Literature on the risk factors associated with all-cause diarrhea masks the taxa-specific drivers of diarrhea from specific pathogens, limiting the application of relevant control strategies.

Background: Histopathological analysis of autopsied brains is the gold standard of diagnosis in neurodegenerative disorders. Co-registered histology and MRI scans aid in understanding pathology and structural features. Previous studies focused on the medial temporal lobe (MTL) for atrophy patterns in phosphorylated tau (p-tau) pathology and in whole hemisphere scans with contralateral semi-quantitative p-tau measures.

University of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia, PA, USA.
Background: People living with Alzheimer's disease and related dementias confront numerous decisions that affect their wellbeing, as well as that of their family members. Research demonstrates the importance of family involvement in such decision making, yet there is a lack of knowledge about how patients and families work together to make decisions and how families can best provide decisional support.
Methods: Semi-structured interviews were conducted separately with 15 patients diagnosed with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or mild dementia, identified through a National Institute on Aging-funded Alzheimer's Disease Research Center, and 14 care partners.
