Article Synopsis
  • - Colorectal cancer (CRC) is a serious disease that can be detected early using colonoscopy, but identifying polyps visually can be challenging due to varying lighting conditions.
  • - The article introduces a new technique called Enhanced Scattering Wavelet Convolutional Neural Network (ESWCNN) which combines CNN and Scattering Wavelet Transform to improve the accuracy of polyp classification.
  • - ESWCNN achieved impressive results with 96.4% accuracy in classifying three types of polyps and 94.8% accuracy in a two-class scenario, showing it outperforms traditional CNN models in identifying different polyp types.

Background: Patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and hyperplastic/serrated polyposis have an increased risk of colorectal cancer. The aim of our study was to elucidate the nature of serrated lesions in IBD patients.

Materials And Methods: Sixty-five lesions with serrated morphology were analyzed in 39 adult IBD patients.

Background: Incidence and mortality from colorectal cancer (CRC) are higher among African Americans where CRC screening rates lag behind non-Hispanic whites. The purpose of this investigation was to evaluate CT colonography (CTC) performance and outcome measures in an African-American cohort.

Materials And Methods: This study is an institutional review board-approved and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act-compliant study.

April 2017

Anatomia Patologica, Dipartimento di Medicina Diagnostica, Clinica e Sanità Pubblica, Università di Modena e Reggio Emilia. Policlinico, Via del Pozzo 71, 41100, Modena, Italy.

Attenuated polyposis could be defined as a variant of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) in which synchronous polyps of the large bowel range between 10 and 99. We analysed all cases of attenuated polyposis observed over the last 30 years with the objectives: (A) to classify the disease according to different type and proportion of polyps; (B) To ascertain the contribution of APC and MutYH genes; (C) to discover features which could arise the suspicion of mutations; (D) To obtain indications for management and follow-up. 84 individuals in 82 families were studied.
