Disseminated candidiasis is a life-threatening disease and remains the most common bloodstream infection in hospitalized patients in the United States. Despite the availability of modern antifungal therapy, the crude mortality rate in the last decade has remained unacceptably high. Novel approaches are urgently needed to supplement or replace current antifungal therapies.

Objective: Recent data imply that strengthening host immunity by checkpoint inhibition improves outcome in invasive fungal infections (IFI), particularly in candidiasis.
Methods: To assess T-cell exhaustion in this context, we compared peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) and serum samples of patients with invasive Candida albicans infection (IC, n = 21) to PBMCs or tumor-infiltrating lymphocytes (TILs) from cancer patients (n = 14) and PBMCs of healthy controls (n = 20). Type and differentiation of lymphocytes and expression of 29 immune-regulatory molecules were analyzed by flow cytometry.

The increasing interest in molecular diagnostics is a result of tremendously improved knowledge on fungal infections in the past 20 years and the rapid development of new methods, in particular polymerase chain reaction. High expectations have been placed on molecular diagnostics, and the number of laboratories now using the relevant technology is rapidly increasing-resulting in an obvious need for standardization and definition of laboratory organization. In the past 10 years, multiple new molecular tools were marketed for the detection of DNA, antibodies, cell wall components, or other antigens.

Objectives: Polyclonal anti-Candida chicken egg yolk antibodies (anti-IgY) were used to investigate the prevention of adherence of Candida species to denture base material in vitro.
Background: Candida is a potential virulence factor that can cause systemic infection and even death in immunocompromised individuals. Because long-term antifungal treatment may lead to the emergence of drug-resistant strains, it is necessary to develop novel preventive measures and treatments for candidiasis.

Candiduria is common in hospitalised patients, but the clinical relevance is still unclear. This study was done to further our knowledge on detection of and host responses to candiduria. Urines and clinical data from 136 patients in whom presence of yeast was diagnosed by microscopic urinalysis were collected.
