This study was conducted to examine the tyrosinase inhibitory and anti-inflammatory activities of kojic acid derivatives. A series of kojic acid derivatives containing thioether, sulfoxide, and sulfone linkages were synthesized. In the tyrosinase assay, kojyl thioether derivatives containing appropriate lipophilic alkyl chains (pentane, hexane, and cyclohexane) showed potent inhibitory activity. However, sulfoxides and sulfones exhibited decreased activity. Similar experimental results were obtained with inhibitory activities of NO production being induced by LPS. The presence of thioether linkage and appropriated lipophilic acid moiety was critical for the tyrosinase inhibitory and anti-inflammatory activities.

A new depside glucoside rosarugoside E (1), together with four known compounds punicalagin (2), corilagin (3), granatin B (4) and ellagic acid (5) were isolated from the ethanol extract of pomegranate (Punica granatum L.) flower. Their structures were identified based on careful analysis of various spectral data including UV, IR, HR-ESI-MS, 1D and 2D NMR.

In the present study, 5-Hydroxy-2-(Oleoyloxymethyl) -4H-pyran-4-one (KMO 3), and their chelated with Cu(II) and Fe(III) ions were synthesized to explore their inhibitory activity against tyrosinase and cytotoxicity. To this end, the structures of the obtained compounds were confirmed by ATR/FT-IR, 13C and 1H-NMR, and UV-vis techniques. The results show that chelating fatty ester presents the bands at 1567m, 1511w cm-1 attributed to the coordinated carbonyl (Cu(II)←[O=C]2), and the bands at 1540m, 1519m cm-1 which were attributed to the coordinated carbonyl (Fe(III)←[O=C]3).

Background: Edible insects are used for consumption and traditional medicine due to their rich bioactive compounds. This study examined the bioactive compounds and inhibitory effects of crude extracts from Bombyx mori and Omphisa fuscidentalis on α-glucosidase, α-amylase, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and tyrosinase. Fatty acids, including n-hexadecanoic acid and oleic acid, were identified in the extracts and evaluated for their inhibitory potential against the enzymes in vitro and in silico.
