Elaboration of the structure of TRPV1 and its functional relationship with channel activity is a work in progress, with much remaining to be done before the structure-function relationship of TRPV1 is comprehensively elicited. The result is that the present state of knowledge can reasonably be described as a patch-work of insightful data where major deficits in knowledge remain and where meaningful general conclusions cannot be reliably drawn. This is unfortunate, given that this ion channel has been convincingly implicated in a wide range of physiological functions and pathological conditions. Moreover, the development of therapeutic strategies which target TRPV1 depends on the knowledge of this receptor's structure and its relationship with channel function. Here, we offer a description of the present state of knowledge in relation to this complex subject.

The migration of Zn ions is significantly more challenging compared to that of Li ions within the same crystalline framework, leading to poor rate performance of zinc-ion batteries (ZIBs). Compared to Li, the slower migration rate of Zn is vaguely attributed to the stronger electrostatic interaction induced by Zn. Herein, the rule of how the size of the migration channel and electrostatic interaction affect Zn and Li migration in α-VO has been systematically investigated by first-principle calculations.

Background: Cystic fibrosis (CF) is associated with a historically high treatment burden which causes anxiety and exhaustion for parents of children with CF, especially in the early years of a child's life. Recently, a new medication, elexacaftor/tezacaftor/ivacaftor (ETI), has become available to some people with CF, which has had a significant impact on the quality of life of older children and adults. This medication will soon be available for children ages 2-5 in the UK.

Objective: To investigate the effects and mechanisms of miRNA 221 on myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury (MIRI) in mice through the regulation of phospholamban (PLB) expression.
Methods: The MIRI mouse model was created and mice were divided into sham, MIRI, MIRI+ 221, and MIRI+ scr groups, with miRNA 221 overexpression induced in the myocardium of MIRI mice by targeted myocardial injection. Quantitative RT-PCR analysis was performed to observe the variation in miRNA 221, PLB, SERCA2, RYR2, NCX1, Cyt C and caspase 3 mRNA levels in myocardium, while Western blot assessed the levels of PLB, p-PLB (Ser16), p-PLB (Thr17), SERCA2, RYR2, NCX1, Cyt C and caspase 3 proteins.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is one of the leading health problems in the world. It is silent in the early stages and gradually progresses, inducing renal physiological and structural alterations. Moreover, CKD is associated with impaired life quality, increased risk for cardiovascular diseases, and reduced life expectancy.

Neuropathic pain (NP) imposes a significant burden on individuals, manifesting as nociceptive anaphylaxis, hypersensitivity, and spontaneous pain. Previous studies have shown that traumatic stress in the nervous system can lead to excessive production of hydrogen sulfide (HS) in the gut. As a toxic gas, it can damage the nervous system through the gut-brain axis.
