Unlabelled: Inability to perform defibrillation threshold (DFT) testing during implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) implantation due to comorbidities may influence long-term survival.
Material And Methods: Retrospective review (2005-2007) identified 142 patients undergoing ICD implantation without DFT testing (No-DFT group). A control group consisting of 290 patients undergoing standard DFT testing (DFT group) was compared to the first group in terms of appropriate shocks, clinical shock efficacy and all-cause mortality. The primary and secondary prophylactic therapy were performed to the estimation.
Results: DFT testing was withheld due to atrial fibrillation with inability to exclude left atrial thrombus, left ventricular thrombus, congestive heart disease and(or) ischemia, hypotension and absent of anesthesiologist. The No-DFTgroup had a similar appropriate shock rate, but lower total survival (79.1% vs. 91.2%, p = 0.01) than the DFT group. In secondary prophylactic therapy, the No-DFT group had a higher incidence of sudden death (7.6% vs. 4.3%, p = 0.03) compared to the DFT group.
Conclusions: The overall mortality was higher in the No-DFT group and number of sudden death in secondary prophylactic therapy. DFT testing should therefore remain the standard of care. Nevertheless, ICD therapy should not be withheld in patients who meet appropriate implant criteria simply on the basis of clinical scenarios that preclude routine DFT testing.

Regulation of active sites of electrocatalysts is critical in adjusting electronic structure and catalytic selectivity towards oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) to hydrogen peroxide (HO). Herein, the CuX/CNTs (X = Se, SSe, S) hollow tetrakaidecahedron catalysts were synthesized to facilitate the electrocatalytic reduction of O to HO. The introduction of S resulted in a shift from four-electron pathway on CuSe/CNTs to two-electron process on CuS/CNTs, ultimately leading to an enhancement in HO productivity.

Clothianidin (CTD), a highly water soluble neonicotinoid insecticide, easily enters water through runoff. Developing eco-friendly materials to degrade CTD is essential. Nano zero valent iron (nZVI) is effective for contaminant removal, but it deactivates due to agglomeration.

An ideal water-splitting electrocatalyst is inexpensive, abundant, highly active, stable, selective, and durable. The anodic oxygen evolution reaction (OER) is the main bottleneck for H production with a complex and not fully resolved mechanism, slow kinetics, and high overpotential. Nickel oxide-based catalysts (NiO) are highly active and cheaper than precious metal catalysts.

Single atom alloys (SAAs) have gained tremendous attention as promising materials with unique physicochemical properties, particularly in catalysis. The stability of SAAs relies on the formation of a single active dopant on the surface of a metal host, quantified by the surface segregation and aggregation energy. Previous studies have investigated the surface segregation of non-ligated and ligated SAAs to reveal the driving forces underlying such phenomena.

Multivalent-ion batteries offer an alternative to Li-based technologies, with the potential for greater sustainability, improved safety, and higher energy density, primarily due to their rechargeable system featuring a passivating metal anode. Although a system based on the Ca/Ca couple is particularly attractive given the low electrochemical plating potential of Ca, the remaining challenge for a viable rechargeable Ca battery is to identify Ca cathodes with fast ion transport. In this work, a high-throughput computational pipeline is adapted to (1) discover novel Ca cathodes in a largely unexplored space of "empty intercalation hosts" and (2) develop material design rules for Ca-ion mobility.
