Background: Neutrophil Extracellular Traps can contribute to thrombosis via stabilization fibrin network, which is normally conducted by plasma transglutaminase, Factor XIII-A as part of coagulation cascade. The possible presence and activity of FXIII-A in neutrophils or during NETosis is unknown. Here, we investigated potential presence of FXIII-A in neutrophils and participation in NET-fibrinogen interaction.

Neutrophils, as essential component of the innate immune response, form a crucial part in the defence mechanisms through the release of extracellular traps (NETs). These web-like structures, composed of chromatin and antimicrobial proteins, are essential for the entrapment and inactivation of pathogens. However, either constitutive formation or inefficient clearance of NETs leads to adverse effects such as fibrosis, thrombosis, delayed wound healing and tissue damage in multiple diseases associated with sterile inflammation.

Fibrinolysis influences the mobilization of hematopoietic stem cells from their bone marrow microenvironment (BMM). Here we show that activation of plasmin, a key fibrinolytic agent, by annexin A2 (ANXA2) distinctly impacts progression of BCR-ABL1 B-cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia (B-ALL) via modulation of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in the BMM. The dense ECM in a BMM with decreased plasmin activity entraps insulin-like growth factor (IGF) 1 and reduces mTORC2-dependent signaling and proliferation of B-ALL cells.

Objectives: We aimed to identify conditions mimicking nervous system involvement among patients with Behçet's syndrome (BS) and to determine clinical, laboratory and imaging findings that may help in the differential diagnosis.
Methods: We screened the charts of 500 consecutive BS patients to identify those who were referred to neurology at any time during their follow-up. The final diagnoses, presenting signs and symptoms, laboratory and imaging results were retrieved from patient charts.
