This study investigates the influences of a family's spiritual beliefs and practices on substance use and sexual risk behaviors among young adolescents 13-14 years old in Bangkok, Thailand. Independent predictor variables are the parents' and teens' spiritual beliefs and practices in Buddhism and parental monitoring behaviors. The study uses data from the 2007 Baseline Survey of the Thai Family Matters Project, which adapted a U.S. based family prevention program for Thai culture. A representative sample of 420 pairs of parents and teens from the Bangkok metropolitan area was recruited to participate in the study. Structural equation models indicate that positive direct and indirect associations of the spirituality of parents and teens within a family and the prevention of adolescent risk behaviors are significant and consistent.

Introduction: Hypertension is the leading preventable cause of cardiovascular morbidity and mortality globally, with a disproportionate impact on low-income and middle-income countries like Sri Lanka. Effective blood pressure (BP) control improves outcomes in patients with hypertension. This study aimed to assess the prevalence of uncontrolled hypertension, and its correlates among Sri Lankan patients with hypertension in clinic settings.

SGLT2 inhibitors are a family of drugs that were developed to treat diabetes mellitus. In randomized controlled trials, SGLT2 inhibitors seem to prevent kidney deterioration in patients with nephropathies, both diabetic and non-diabetic. However, in contrast to biochemical/physiological results (proteinuria and serum creatinine levels) that improve in all studies, the clinical results (all-cause mortality, cardiovascular death, need for dialysis, or renal transplant) do not consistently improve.

Introduction: While various demographic factors and underlying medical conditions are associated with the development of post-COVID conditions within a month after SARS-CoV-2 infection, less is known about factors associated with post-COVID symptoms that persist for 6 months or more. The aim of this review was to determine the association between underlying conditions, other risk factors, health behaviors, and the presence of symptoms ≥6 months after COVID-19.
Methods: Studies reporting on post-COVID symptoms were searched in databases, including Medline, EMBASE, Global Health, PsycInfo, Scopus, CINAHL, Proquest, and WHO COVID-19 literature, from the beginning of the pandemic until November 2022.

Background: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is one of the most diagnosed digestive disorders, with much-conducted research assessing its prevalence and risk factors associated with it worldwide. However, there are no published previous studies to determine such disease and its burden in Bahrain. Hence, this study aims to estimate the prevalence and evaluate the risk factors associated with GERD among adults attending primary care in Bahrain.
